Default K&N replacement for Comptech kit

i hear alot of talk about the lack-luster performance of the comptech foam filter and would like to order a k&n filter when i order my 1220 kit.

i found a dude running one, and pm'ed him.... no response.

so i found a guy with a build thread he recently posted in and posted there and pm'd him...... no response.

if anyone has the dimensions of their foam filter and possibly some pics of it uninstalled, that would be mega helpful. once i have dimensions, i can make practically anything work. maybe even a apexi powerflow filter. that would be super nice.

anyway, post up if you have some free time to check this out for daddy please.

thanks guys, i appreciate it.

I believe it's an AFE product number, you'll probably be able to grab the size from their.

Yeah, I use AFE. Basically the same thing as KN. A cotton washable filter. I just use the KN recharge cleaner/oil. Same stuff just red vs blue.

Me too. Mine is pretty big and just barely fits in the air box but I don't remember the part number.

ok, so i used the link posted( thanks rocky), and i did some sherlock holmes type-shit and found the dimensions to the AFE filter the dude used.

the dimensions are as follows:
inlet flange diameter: 5.5"
filter base diameter: 7"
filter end diameter: 4.75"
overall filter length: 7"

that being said, K&N doesnt make a filter with a 5.5" inlet................
no wonder people arnt running them. lol

Good work Holmes

Get the new version with the center cone filter. I'm digging it.

so here's another question:

what is the inner diameter of the intake tube where it mounts to the sc?

i want a filter with a built in velocity stack, and the only ones i have found are around 3.15" inlets.

i cant find an afe with a "funnel style" filter. and the one the guy used in the thread is just a reg cone filter and the price is now 56 before shipping.

if it comes down to it, i will make an intake that will be the same dimensions as the oem tube, but with a better filter and still utilize the box. if the tube is really only 3-3.5 inches in diameter, the only reason they have a 5.5" inlet filter is for the way it mounts to their intake box. and i can modify that tastefully to be whatever i want. lol i have done business with a guy who makes me one-off parts outta carbon fiber. he is a carbon fiber race bicycle builder/repairer by trade, but nothing is outta his reach.
