KaNgArOo...going Turbo...

5-4-16 To be continued!!! Went to a dyno day last weekend just for fun. On the dyno, found out my clutch is slipping, and the tunner there said i was running really lean in the higher rpm on High boost. (20psi) Sooo....just orderd ID1700, a CC Stage 5 (4puck sprund disc), and a 4 bar map sensor. Really debating if i should tune it to 25psi!!!

Hi guys, After 12 years of owning the car, i finally lowered it slightly last week. I got a good deal on some Ohlins DFV that are revalved for 11k springs all around. I have about a 1" drop all around. I do a lot of autoX, but just locally and just for fun, although i always strive to get FTD!! If you don't like bright flashy colors, this might not be for you. It's currently comptech supercharged but i have the itch for more power. I'm just waiting on more parts, but it'll be Turbo'ed soon with a V-mount setup.

Turning this into my build thread.

I'm excited, and can't wait to receive all my parts so i can finish this project before summer is over. I am not doing all the install myself, but i do have a friend that will be doing if for me. Hoping to have everything done by the end of July. I wll be having my battery relocated to the trunk as well as my fusebox being relocated to either the fender or the passenger footwell.

And i'm thinking of routing my dump tube out my hood.

High quality build. Love it.

KaNgArOo 06-03-2014 09:19 AM

Thanks guys! I will keep you guys updated on the build. This setup will be a mix of InlinePro, SOS, and Pfab.

I acutally have a brand new InlinPro Stage 1 full Turbo kit already, but I ended up wanting a better setup. So now I think i found my Optimal setup that I'll be satisfied with............... for now. Haha. I know i'm going to eventually need a stronger Diff and tranny as well. I do currently have a comptech reinforce Differential housing on, which I think should be a little stronger then ann AP2 diff. I don't plan to do a lot of drag racing, and wanted to setup the car for Road course/AutoX.

Ah well then why not :) Evans told me it would be a waste of money since my goal was 600whp. Said ap2 work fine.

(If you're wondering about that kink in my crossbeam, it's because i had to to fit my oil drain line from when i was supercharged.)

KaNgArOo 09-12-2014 01:29 PM

Getting closer to finishing this project. Can't wait to get it on the dyno and drive it finally. Andy and i decided that a 3 ply 90*coupler would be easier than trying to weld on a 90* aluminum elbow.

Take this for what its worth as every engine is different... When I went to 16 PSI on my supercharger I had a breather filter on the front crankcase vent and the OEM routing for the PCV valve. I was popping my dipstick up and even popped my PCV valve out once at an autox because of the excessive crankcase pressure. I decided to buy an 04-05 valve cover, get an -AN fitting for the PCV port, and ran both the PCV port and the front crankcase vent to a vented catch can. That solved my issues. So technically I'm still using the OEM ports, but the tubing is much larger in diameter than the OEM PCV tubing.

KaNgArOo 09-23-2014 08:51 AM

Thanks for the reply/help guys, I will try the stock ports first, and if that doesn't work, i'll probably try the supra PCV port next.

Alright S2ki peeps!! Car's all ready to hit the Dyno. Andy and i will be heading to RS Motors in MN October 1st, for Mr. Ron Solimon to work his magic. I just want to thank Andy Smedegard for the work he has done for me.
Its not quite finish finish yet, but it's ready for the dyno. Just have to put the finishing touches to the dump tube still and hook up my windshield spray.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...psd661b3ce.jpg

If you guys didn't know, Andy Smedegard from 365racing.net will be competing in the Optima Battery Ultimate Street Car Challenge in Las Vegas, NV. As far as I know he is the only S2000 that qualified for the Final Showdown in Las Vegas. Andy qualified for it at the Michigan event. Placing first in the GT2k class (Under 3000lbs) with a bone stock 2001 S2000 with an AP2 motor and CR Springs, Square 245/40/17 RS3 tires, a good alignment, and crazy good driving skills beating C5 Z06's and more. But for the Final Event in Las Vegas, he will be doing suspension work and adding my Old Comptech Supercharge to his car!!! Oh yeah!! I'm rooting for him to do well, that supercharge has treated me well ever since i bought it new back in 2006. A little read on Andy's Car if anyone is interested, http://www.optimabatteries.com/en-us...1-honda-s2000/

your build is awesome! I have a question to all pfab users do you have to relocate the fuse box or can you turn it sideways and shield it? I ask because I want to do pretty much the same thing in a few years after I get another s to play with that said I like to drive the car long distance and don't fancy pulling a tire and fender well for a blown fuse any info would be appreciated. also do you have any pics of your cold air intake you had on the comptech setup I have been thinking about that but not sure if its worth the work or if I should make an efficient air to air intercooler I know its blasphemy but I want to track and without the methanol the car would run hot after a few hard laps thanks in advance. I would swear you read my mind when you put your build together :tipwink:

KaNgArOo 09-30-2014 07:54 AM

Thanks guys! Big dyno day is tomorrow! Can't wait! Hoping everything works, but we did change a lot of things, so there will probably be 1 or 2 problems. Hopefully just minor things.

S2k Manic- You don't have to relocate the fuse box with the Pfab ELT manifold. Just turning it sideways will work. Make sure to use lots and lots of heat wrap and shields because the manifold will be pretty close to it.

With a Centrifugal supercharger you wouldn't benefit enough from an air to air intercooler. Just a large heat exchanger will work. Or maybe do a custom v-mount heat exchanger. These are the only pics i could find of my cold air intake for my supercharger setup.

thanks for the pics I have been looking at tube and fin air to air intercoolers. they are more efficient than bar and plate as there is much less boost loss plus I would make the tube as strait as possible. with 14 psi in cold weather I am loosing a lot of power in the summer even with my methanol setup. I am running the large sos cooler I like to drive hard for extended periods of time and have had heat soak problems to the point when on group drives in summer I carry cooling packs in a cold bag in the trunk and lay them out on the air to water intercooler during fuel and food stops. if I can keep boost loss to 2 psi it will give more power if it goes past that it will have been and engineering experiment :tipwink: cant wait to build my next s2k so glad my wife wants her own she can take the comptech car. I will build a gpw version very similar to yours though I want the ohlins txx coilovers. what kind of hood mods do you plan on doing? I was going to take out the skeleton and make and exit for the intercooler air by rolling a portion of the hood down to the cross member and making a lip at the front of the vent then just make plates on the end of the intercooler so it seals to the hood like the hood on the topfuel s2000. I also plan to build an airbox that seals to the hood and draws in fresh air through forward facing louvers if I could draw it I would. this is a pic of my current setup doing what I can to keep it happy in the Texas summer :banghead:

Not really planning to do any other hood vents to it other than what I have already. I didnt get the dyno sheet yet, and ill take some pics of the V-mount setup after I get the car back. Andy has to finish some small stuff in it still.

Crossing my fingers we dont get snow anytime soon!!!

s2k manic 10-03-2014 09:40 AM

looks like you have good power I bet it runs a lot cooler than a conventional setup. are planning to track it next year?

KaNgArOo 10-03-2014 12:11 PM

I haven't reallly driven it on the streets much at all, so I can't comment on temperature yet and i do plan to do a few track days next year. I haven't really driven the car much at all yet since it's back at Andy's house getting the finishing touches on it. I accidentally did a mini burnout test driving it after the tune though (Competition Stage 4 (6-puck). Hahaha. Clutch grabs hard!! It's not as bad as people make it out to be, but it will take some getting use to. Once moving it feels better than any oem clutch.

Even before getting into boost i can tell the car is waaaaayyy faster. I haven't taken it past 6800rpm yet, but that already felt fast as well.

Going to the drag strip Oct 12. I'll report back on how it does. Hope nothing breaks!! I'm not planning on launching the car, so i'm not expecting a quick time, but i'm mainly concern about what my trap speed will be.

s2klariat 10-03-2014 01:39 PM

Congrats! It's an awesome feeling when all the hard work pays off. Post some vids from the track when you go!

Do you have any pics on this?

Quick update! Car runs awesome!! Except that it keeps blowing the alternator fuse. (15amp) This was one of the problems we had when we were on the dyno. The alternator just wouldn't charge. Turns out to be a fuse. Replaced that and everything worked flawless. We'll today, Andy drove the car to work, and boom, fuse blows again. He's going to tear into it tonight to figure out whats causing it. Maybe a bad ground, maybe a frail wire, maybe a bad connection. Who knows. It's nothing major but it will have to get fix.

Other than that little problem, Andy says the car drives like a dream. I'll be heading to Andy's place tomorrow to help him finish up the car and driving it back home hopefully.

Does your dash lights flicker? My car was popping the breaker I installed. The rectifier was starting to go bad causing it to overcharge the battery. When it pops the fuse, check and see if the battery is hot to the touch. But if you're just popping the small fuse, you probably have a short some place. I faulty ground doesn't usually pop fuses.

I dont think the dash flickers at all. Andy did find the problem. It was a loose wire hanging by the ecu. Not sure what its for, but every time the car hit a bump the wire would touch ground and short itself. Glad that is taken care of now.

Awesome build dude! looking forward to doing mine this winter!!

Figured out the fuse problem. There was one loose wire near the ECU, and every time we hit a bump it would ground itself and blow a fuse. Got that taken care of. But now we have an issue with over heating.

Bled the coolant a million times, got all the air out, and there always seems to be more air after a while. Pressured checked the coolant system, and it's losing 1psi every 15min. Next to check on the list is Head Gasket.

Turbo problems. :D!!

Will update when we find the problem.

Oh lordy! Do you have white smoke out the tail pipes? Fingers crossed its not the HG.

KaNgArOo 12-31-2014 12:24 PM

It turned out to be a massive air pocket. Andy bled the system again, and everything seems to be running well now. He also redid the dump tube to get it to fit better. I personally think it is sticking out a little too much, but he purposely left it a little long so we can cut it down the the size i wanted.

Here's a vid of it in action.

I wonder if there are visible flames out of the dump tube at night. We put a catalytic converter on a carbureted snowmobile and the light show at night was pretty impressive.
