Smile Knock Sensor Failure

I have been trying to diagnose why the EMS is not getting a signal from the knock sensor. All of my testing points to the sensor being bad, but I have never seen on fail. It is a very simple piezoelectric devise and should last forever and my car only has 40K. Secondly the sensor is $130 shipped, these things are cheap and I don't want to throw parts at it just to have it fail again.

My first thought was that the plug may have been broken during my clutch install but it was fine.

Second I though the wire may be shorted to ground but I tested it and the was not short.

Next I check continuity of the wire at the ECM and the pigtail and that was good.

Finally I hooked my multimeter to the wire and ground started the car and free revved it and got 0V.

Are there any other test I can run?

Has anyone else ever had a sensor fail, not break?

Maybe I just have too much power?

I've broke two of them lol.

Never had one go bad though.

Pull it off, and make sure it's not broken.

They are soo fragile.

upgrade to a different knock sensor. If I break mine I plan to change out to something more sensitive.

Easier said then done.

I have an old Bosch sensor but I would have to verify the frequency range, resonant frequency, Voltage output range.....................
not with a full ems. just change it in there or have your tuner do it. Its preprogrammed with quite a few, and all of the others can be manually installed.

Looks like you need a series 2 ems with an adjustable center

Damn, I just pulled up AEM Tuner and your right, why does there have to be issues with it? Now I know why Jeff was able to work with it on Joey's car.

Did you end up finding the problem? I am having the same thing happen right now with my car where my knock raw volts doesnt budge from .02v

Checked the wire and everything checks out. Sounds exactly the same as yours
