Kraftwerks c38-92 let the part breaking begin!
Well i got my new kraftwerks kit installed on my ap1 it made 430whp and 255lbs, made it a week (about 200 miles) and i blew my diff apart last night already. I went with a supercharger hoping it would be a little easier on the drive train, i guess i was wrong!
Ap1 diffs are weak. Ap2 are better, by alleviating the first weak link, which is the main bearing end cap thickness. These end caps flex over time/stress, pulling the ring and pinion out of alignment, and this causing the first failure point of broken ring or pinion gear. Ive been through 2 ap1 diffs but never an ap2 yet. There is a basic end cap modification that was done in the early days, stacking another cap over the existing stock one for added reinforcement. I know this could be had through comptech back in the day and 1 or 2 other company's if i recall, but not sure who is doing them anymore. Puddy Dad will build you a diff to various stages depending on how much money you want to spend, but none of them are cheap. I always just pick up used stuff because I could never afford or justify 4x the cost of a low mile used OEM option vs building something stronger.
I launched it quite a few times when the car was N/A and i think putting power to it was the last straw, it just suprised me it broke so fast. I have a ap2 diff i am putting in it today so hopefully that will make it untill i can get a puddy mod built for it.
i have the same opinion honestly. Not worth spending $2-$4k when that can potentially buy me 4-8 diffs. I never blew a diff went i was supercharged before and i drove the car hard both on the street and track/auto-x. As long as you don't launch and drive "smooth" the diff will be fine.
