My S2000 has a NOVI1000 supercharger, which seems to be leaking oil. Any other ideas on what it could be? My car isn't driven all that much, but the supercharger has been on the car since I've had it. If it IS the blower, what are my options?
Mine did the same thing for years. Never effected anything, just left the area around the intake grimy.
I swapped out to a novi 1200 a few months ago when the 1000 started to sporadically screech. I think one of the bearing gave up.
I’d say keep using it as is until it wears out, and clean it out once in a while.
There is a company that rebuilds them (still). If you have a Comptech kit and want to swap to the1200 you’ll need to use the SOS bracket (about 3-4 hundred) and, a new pulley wheel (100), new belt and a retune.
The swap took me a day, as the bracket bolts were a bitch, but nothing about the swap was undoable.
Thanks for the replies so far. I'll have it more closely looked at next week. I didn't take off the hose, on the valve cover, but it does not seem compromised. I will try cleaning the area, and see how it looks after driving it some more.
Are you sure it’s not just the hose that recirculates from the pvc? There’s a a lot of oil that gets recirculated from there. You could eliminate that by running a catch can.
It could be the PCV valve system, or it could be a leaking input shaft seal on the supercharger. I rebuilt my Paxton 1000 with new high speed bearings and when I pulled the impeller, the input seal was shot. It also had worn a little groove on the shaft where the seal sat, making the new seal that I installed not 100% effective. I had to pull the blower apart again and slight move the seal. I still get a little bit of oil sitting at the bottom of the blower , however, my oil consumption is still low. Probably not worth the effort to have it rebuilt, but you might want to disconnect the pcv valve system and just vent it to atmosphere to see if that is the culprit.
This is more typical of the seal failure on the blower. It happens eventually. I agree though for due diligence, to isolate the engine from the blower, by removing the venting/pvc lines and confirm. A basic rebuild with new seals is around $500 a few years ago. If the bearings are toast add another $400ish. However its more then likely just due for a seal replacement. I don't know the current/latest companies working on these NV1000. But I believe Supercharger rebuilds.com still may. I would reach out to them first and get the scoop.
