Default Lets talk traction....

Forced Induction foruma lot of guys are making well over 500whp these days and I'm keen to see what your doing to get your power to the ground..

Out of curiosity, is anyone running a stand alone Traction Control unit?

Maybe we could get some sort of break down chart happening? See if we can help out a few other guys who might be experiencing problems in this area.

Your thoughts?

For example...

I'm not making enough power to have problems beyond 2nd gear as far as the dry goes. My 295/17 Xtreme summers doing pretty good at a -3 camber road track set up. Any less tire contact patch would be dangerous at this level. I suppose much more power and I might have to look at some Hoosers R comp in this size, or just not get much of it to the ground before 3rd gear.

What are you running for tires?

I didn't really have dry traction problems w 245 re050s in the rear, sounds like yours aren't really that good...

I get slight wheel spin on colder nights, but holds up very nice. They dont do well in rain.

Thats surprising. But as mentioned I'm running a road course alignment with -3 camber. with a 295 Ive still got a good 255 on the ground though. I'm running the kuhmo XS which are a bit stickier then the popular Dunlop Z1 Starspecs just for comparison. Road surface and temp plays a big part in this though too. When the tires are up to temp and on good blacktop I'll usually hook pretty good in 2nd gear. and 1st if I roll it on.

Rim width 11.5"

Tire profile 295/35/17

180 Xtreme summer compound

The biggest thing I use is my KPro boost by gear. I limit boost in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. I progressively increase boost through these 3 gears before turning it loose in 4th. This keeps me from spinning. The Star Specs are excellent tires. They really grip.

stickier tires are better then wider tires , and closer to stock camber is better too.

your best friend will be boost by gear on a turbo car, and lowering the gain so that the boost spools a bit slower.

i had 265 azenis 615s and spun 2nd gear from a stab with 344/245. i went to a 275 toyo ra1 r comp, i can floor first now

ask yourself, if the car isnt a daily, and doesnt see rain too much, then just put a sick tire on it
