Pinging is from detonation and a result of bad timing I believe. If you had perfect timing and say, 14.5 AF at WOT, you wouldnt have pinging or detonation. But if you had bad timing and say, 10.5 AF at WOT, you could have pinging or detonation. What i'm trying to say is, bad timing will result in pinging or detonation way before any lean issue in AF. This is the way I understand it anyway.

^^^Pinging is a general term for the sound and damage it can cuase, but there is two conditions which can exhibit this sound/problem, which is a bit confusing. There is pre ignition and detonation. Typically Pre ignition is caused from too much timing advance, excessive fuel or deposits in the combustion chamber which ignite/burn during part of the piston cycle which is not part of the appropriate combustion time. Detonation is typically heat related. There are times when you can have both, or one or the other. Determining which one you are experiencing isn't always apparent at first. But discerning which it is will usually point you to the right remedy.

Good luck bro...get a tune asap...but O2 might be bad. Mine went out once but showed rich not lean. You need to get a west coast tune.. they seem to know their stuff out here! No need to ever take the car back again and again for re-tunes.

I had same symptoms on my Innovative LC1 wideband, tuner swapped out for some $40 bosche wideband he said works from a VW or something and wham problem solved. I would first say check out wideband. Also do a datalog of you driving it and send it to your tuner to have him check it out. He should be able to tell you if your having any real problems that way.

I think he is just saying that his o2 sensor went bad and he replaced it with a new Bosch unit and it fixed the problem.

Is your setup/tune on the AEM using the o2 sensor as a feedback to adjust the tune automatically? This may be your problem. I believe its not good to have the AEM run this way as in your case is what could happen. You should only use the o2 sensor for tuning and to keep an eye on things while driving.

Everyone is speculating on the detonation...anyone want to take a stab at the cause of that that big glass of orange juicehe pulled out of his overflow tank?

I'd be more worried about that.

That doesn't look like oil mixed, I've seen that before, and it always looks way darker and grey'ish.

Did you accidently mix coolant?

I wouldn’t worry about that. Just looks like typical old green Prestone with a bit of rust contamination, though it may be a bit heavy on the water side, not enough coolant can cuase this rusty look. But I don’t see any oil contamination, that would be pretty apparent as it would be clearly floating at the top. So I would just drain/flush the radiator and use some better quality stuff of the right ratio.
