Default MAP Sensor Upgrades- AEM, Subaru?

So this weekend a group of us set out for Wake The Dragon 2008.

On our way down, a driver in our carvan was involved in an accident. We were stopped for about 2 hours waiting for the police to come and write their report. After that ordeal, we returned to the road and my car was not boosting correctly. I thought the engine was heat soaked, so I stayed out of boost until we stopped for lunch.

Upon starting up to return to the road, the idle on my car was extremely rough. I thought it was heat soak again, so I turned the motor off and turned the A/C on, so both cooling fans would operate. Upon my second attempt to start the car, the idel was worse. A friend in my caravan suggested the "MAP Whack" trick. I tapped on it and the idle returned perfectly-so did boost.

I am confused because I replaced this sensor in October after operating my car with a 9# pulley and no stand alone.

What I need to know is:

1) Should I try another OEM MAP Sensor?

2) Should I upgrade to AEM? If so, do you need some sort of stand alone for it?

3) I have heard to people using a Subaru MAP and altering the wire, does anyone have a link to t a DIY or does anyone have this setup?

Thanks.

I have heard of people having a loose plug on the map sensor, they fix this by putting a zip tie around the back end of the plug and map sensor to hold it securely on.

How much boost are you running?

And what are you intending to read it with?

Seriously, if you're running greater than 9lbs with anything other than the AEM EMS or another standalone and a higher range MAP sensor you are cutting corners.

I'd recommend the AEM 3.5 bar or GM 3 bar with AEM EMS.

If you are running an aftermarket ECU (Hondata or AEM) then you have options. Hondata makes a 4 Bar map sensor, there is also the GM 3 bar and the AEM 3.5 Bar as AUS mentioned. With the stock ECU, all you can do is replace the stock sensor with a new one.

I re-read your initial post, seems like you have a 3.5" pulley and no engine management (piggy-back???).

I'm with Aus, the best bet would be an AEM EMS and a different map sensor.
The hondata map sesor is nice as it requires no wire modification, but it is not supported by AEM with the current firmware.

I assume it's not the firmware that is the problem but the AEM software wizard.

It doesn't have the psi/voltage table for this sensor built in.

I too re-read my post, and can tell it is very confusing-sorry.

When I purchased the car, it had a 9# pulley on the blower. After operating the car for about a month with no EMS, I realized this was destoying the car, so I put a 7# Comptech pulley onthe blower and have had no issues.

I presently still have this set-up, however the MAP sensor has needed to be whacked 4 times in the last two weeks, inorder to maintain a decent idle.

1) Do you think I have a "lemon" OEM Map, and should just replace it?

2) I have no immediate intentions of increasing my boost in the near future. Do I need to upgrade to a different MAP? I didn't really want to invest in AEM EMS right now either.

3) Someone told me that you could alter a Subaru Impreza MAP to work on our cars. I didn't know if this is something I should consider.

Again, sorry for not providing a better explaination.

Thanks.
