Default Max boost on stock block

I always here that on turbo'd set-ups 10 psi is suppost to be the max you should run on a stock block and supercharged cars can run up to 12.5 psi. Why?

Im running 12.5 on my vortech and i was wondering what is the weakest part of our engine. I know that in the early days of boosting s2000's the max psi was found the hard way but i want to know what goes first... headgasket, valves, crank, rods, rings, ect. What is stopping me/us from running more boost without additional upgrades.

Thanks.

i run 18psi on mine. where did you hear 10psi is the max you should run? There is a lot of newer technology out now and great tuners. id say 25-30psi would be the most id go on a stock shortblock but this is on racegas. On pump gas Id say the most id go is around 20 psi. There is a lot of other variables you have to look at.

No 3mm headgasket and I run 28psi on a stock block from valve cover to oil pan (other than plugs obviously)

Really? this is with the stock headgasket, compression, ect.

So your telling me WITHOUT a headgasket i could run 18-20 psi before it blows?

Second Question - when it does blow, is it the headgasket that gives out? or is it somthing else.

That limit isn't the limit of the block persay, but the limit you can run because of fuel octane. On the 91 crap out here in Cali on the stock compression ratio, 11psi seems to be a safe number. With 93 octane, you can run a little more. Dump in some race gas, and you can run a lot more.

with race gas anything is possible, with pump 10-11psi is probably a safe limit. Im sure you could run 15psi on pump but why risk it ya know?

The S2000's engine is very stout. Its fully forged and very well built. You'll find that the weak link in this engine has nothing to due with parts, but rather TUNING!

People have run tons of boost on Bone Stock F20c, but the trick is they are great and meticulous tuners.

So really its not that the rods or the headgasket or rings will go. But more so do you trust your tuner enough to run boost higher than 10psi? Do you trust your fuel enough? Do you trust your turbo kit enough to not boost spike?

The point of failure comes from poor tuning. At what point will the rods go? At what point will you truely need to run a fully built low compression engine? Well so far I believe the record is 710WHP on a stock engine. Who has the balls to do more? And even @ 710whp it wasnt any part of the engine that failed. It ended up being a tire blow out that put that S2000 turbo build on hold.

^^Exactly correct. As others have said, there is no "BOOST" limit on a block. Thats like someone who sais that 15psi on a gt40r will blow your motor, but 15psi on a gt35r wont. 15psi is 15psi, period. A motor will last as long as you and your tuner take care of it. Im making over 500 to the wheels on 15psi, with no problems(besides stupid things). No motor problems. Ive had the car running, and frankly beating the hell out of it, with nothing but it coming back for more. It all comes down to what you and your tuner are comfortable with. If he doesnt want to take the car past 12psi, than id stay at 12psi.
