Thumbs up My potential turbo build plan

I am very interested, and excited, about turbocharging my MY06 S2000. My initial intention is to keep the motor stock, with the exception of a 3mm head gasket, and make ~400rwhp. Eventually I will have the motor fully built so that I can make ~600rwhp for the track. Here is my potential build plan:

LoveFab GT1 turbo kit: $6,000
- Garrett GT35R turbo
- LoveFab Sidewinder GT1 manifold
- LoveFab Sidewinder GT1 3" downpipe
- LoveFab Sidewinder GT1 dump tube
- LoveFab oil filter relocation, cooler assembly
- LoveFab turbo oil feed/return lines
- LoveFab TBD" intake arm w/AEM filter
- 3" aluminum charge piping w/all clamps and couplers
- Precision 750hp intercooler w/mounting brackets
- Tial 44mm wastegate
- Tial 50mm BOV
- RC 750cc high-impedience injectors
- Walbro 255lph fuel pump
- Fuse box relocation tabs
- All hardware and gaskets
- Basemap

Miscellaneous: ~$3,005
- Exedy Hyper Single (~$1,500)
- Koyo radiator (~$350)
- Cosmetic 3mm head gasket (~$85)
- Defi-Link Meter BF Imperial, 60mm, White, Turbo (~$230)
- Defi-Link Meter BF Imperial, 60mm, White, Oil Pressure (~$270)
- Defi-Link Meter BF Imperial, 60mm, White, Oil Temp (~$200)
- Defi-Link Meter BF Imperial, 60mm, White, Fuel Pressure (~$270)
- Defi-Link Control Unit II (~$100)

Labor costs: ~$2,200 (lots of unknowns)
- Install turbo kit, radiator and connect gauges ($TBD)
- Install clutch (~$400)
- Install head gasket ($TBD)
- Tuning ($TBD)
- Build gauge display (~$1,800)

Fudge factor: ~$1,500

Total cost: ~$12,705 (lots of unknowns)

I already have an AEM EMS and a single 3" header-back exhaust. My intention is to start this "project" within the next couple months. Because of funding constraints, I believe it will take until summer of 2007 to complete this project.

I am looking for your feedback as to some items that I may have over-looked.

Have you got a solution for the Drive By Wire throttle of the 06?

Also, I'd say your TBDs in the install add up to about $3000.

There is a company in the LA area called AutoWave and they have solved the DBW issue. What they have found is that you use the stock ECU to control the DBW and the AEM EMS to control everything else. They have applied this concept to '95 and newer NSXs (which have DBW as well) and have a 100% success rate.

AutoWave uses a special harness which allows both ECUs to be used in conjunction with each other. As we all know, the MY06 ECU is different from the prior year ECUs. Apparently it has the same type of plugs/connectors as an MY06 RSX, so they had me order an AEM EMS for an RSX. I ordered one directly through AEM (with UEGO ) and just received it today. Once AutoWave has made a prototype harness they will use my S2000 to further the R&D process.

The biggest issue right now (in my mind) will be resolving the returnless fuel system issue. I am hoping that I can simply use aftermarket parts (i.e., AEM FPR, AEM fuel rail, etc.) to resolve the issue.

Concerning labor costs, it will come down to which shop does the work. I have a couple sponsorship possibilities and I am just sitting back waiting to see how the cards fall.

How does the returnless fuel system affect you? I know it's an issue with the Comptech/Vortech systems but shouldn't be an issue with an AEM EMS.

Make sure you figure out total estimated costs and add another couple grand on top of that. You will almost never spend your intended amount on a turbo, especially when it comes to labor or miscellaneous parts.

I cannot say for certain because I am no expert...but we need a return fuel system to go boost. Check out this thread (if you already haven't):

That's what the $1500 fudge factor is for.

The pertinent line in the first post refers to the SC kits which use a rising rate regulator rather than an EMS and injectors. I doubt it has any relevance to you.

Why insted of all of above do not go with rick's Gauge door?
