Default my walbro 450 e85 fuel pump has just died

I have the walbro 450 e85 fuel pump with the science of speed install kit and the wiring kit. The pump only has about 5,000 and has just died or shorted out. One day my car when just cruising it would go full lean and would be bucking like crazy because of no fuel. The car would be cruising fine but would buck and shudder and go full lean for a split second and it would do this ever 5-10 seconds or so. I got the car home and i saw that my under the hood fuel pump fuse and fuse holder was melted. I changed the fuel pump fuse holder from my melted radio shack fuse holder to the sos fuse holder that comes in their wiring kit. I also changed out to a new relay in the back and the car still did the same ting and barely ran. I then pull over the fuel pump assembly and i saw nothing wrong. I took out the walbro 450 pump and put in my oil walbro 255 that has over 40,000 miles on it and the car runs perfect!!!. I also do run the car on e85 90% of the time.

another else have their walbro 450 die so fast. How the hell did my fuel pump fuse just melt like that? I have used that radio shack fuse holder for my walbro 255 for years with out issue.

Your pump is most likely still good. These things are known to draw more current so if your wires, connectors, or fuse element is too thin, they will go out first. Whatever gauge he sos wiring is, you may have to go at least 1 or 2 gauges thicker with higher amp rating fuse.

Give direcct power to the pump from another battery source and see if it idles different. If so then its a wiring issue. If not then the pump is going bad. However it does sound like the pump is going bad. What was the fuel pressure at before you pulled it?

Riceball, the same thing happened to the PTuning spal fan fuse holder. It drew so much amperage that it melted the fuse holder which slowly melted the fuse (but never tripped) causing the fan to kick on intermittently even thou signal was being sent from the Kpro for the fan to turn on. Upgraded the fuse holder to (IIRC from a 12 gauge to a 10 gauge) and it solved the problem. I still check that fuse holder's integrity from time to time.

This is a potential fire hazard. I always carry a fire extinguisher in my car.

I'm on my 3rd or 4th aem e85 pump...Sos has warranteed them every time, so financially it's not an issue, but what a hassle....broken down while driving...more than once. Make sure sos knows about your issue, as they are sending my pumps back to aem for investigation. They've been very pro active and helpful (sos) so no complaints there. But what a hassle. Maybe it's an aem build quality issue.

Oops just realized you said walbro not aem. Anyway, letting sos know wouldn't hurt

^^ I also had an AEM e85 go out on me as well. I think my issue was that my lines were too restrictive for dual pumps causing the primary pump to work too hard as I was running -6an hose for the feed. It's all good now since getting bigger PTFE fuel lines.

Not that this helps the post, but I've had excellent luck with mine, going on 2 years now.

Its the fuse holder. Switch to a mini ANL or the one linked below . Those are only current rated to 15amp. My experience tells me that they cant handle more than 10amps with out looking like that.

This one is rated to a true 40amp and its the same one that SOS includes with their single pump wire kits.
