TAE has at least a few f22c engines in eBay which I was eyeballing before I went local. They have compression and leakdown test results in the photos. Some of the conoression tests seem pretty high if they are USDM. I would ask for a video of the tests showing the block serial number before forking $$$ if you can't physically be present.

local guy is having issues with a motor from a large importer/salvager. If it wasnt for the issue he is having i would have ordered one right away.

I'm exploring options for rebuilding my setup. Does Honda make an over sized piston for our motors or would I be stuck with mahle custom pieces?

I most likely will buy a used motor, as it is the easiest option. It would be nice to have my current motor for back up parts as well. I do enjoy the motor building process. However no one local has any experience building these motors.

Inlinepro has cp frm compatible Pistons I would call them and get a price on a rebuild vs buying a used engine that could have been beat to hell or just worn out. If you get a rebuild at least you know everything is new.

LOL, I also explored going with an inlinepro from rebuild. You might need to prepare for a 6 to 8 week wait period. I think they said the long wait was for the custom pistons. That was based on 11.0:1 pistons, but they said that might have other pistons available. I would call them as mentioned above to check for sure. It looks like you might need to get your head rebuilt or acquire a used one. I called around for getting resleeved and the wait is long as well. I said screw that and bought a good used long block (and tranny). I might get my old block resleeved next year.

Yea, worried about a mystery motor like stated in first post. October in Minnesota means the car won't be driving till may so fortunately I have time.

I have a call into inline on a "reman" longblock.

I was in this same situation, didn't need anything built, but needed a new short block.

I just ended up purchasing a new F22C short block from Honda for about $3800 shipped to my door.

It was expensive, but it was beautiful, I have peace of mind, and it's strong with perfect compression, no oil consumption, I love it

I don't think that there are any more new f22c shorts blocks anymore. I think there were some available last year and the year before that. That's based on what my local dealer told me and based on some threads on this site.

If I had a friend at tae id buy from him too!

I have been too busy climbing and biking to get the motor to machine shop. Trying to get the last of the season in before winter. I'll explore hone/bore oversized pistons route with machine shop. Problem with rebuild is that no one up north is familiar with these motors.
