Default New to the S2000

Hello, I'm new to the S2000. But not new to operating forced induction vehicles. I understand that the S2000's engine is already pretty high strung, and things like exhaust and intake have minimal effects not worth the investment for the most part. I used to a have a 2005 Mustang GT that had full bolt ons, and the Super Shaker system on it, before it got totalled. My question is, if I were to get the Comptech S/c for my S2000, what else would I need to do before the S/c went on for it to be ready for FI?

Also, down the road, how many Am I looking at price wise to do a complete engine rebuild? (I do all my own labor except machining of parts)

Thanks for your time.

Well now you have a lot to learn. I was in your shoes just a few years ago when I bought my S, expect I was working in fast cars like my Vette and Fbody's.

First off the S2000 low end is amazingly stout. Unless you miss a shift or have a poor tuner you are likely not to have any issues.

You are correct about the bolt-on’s they are a complete waste of time. With the S2000 you either go FI or keep it stock the way I see it.

I am not sure of your situation but with your back ground I am going to suggest a turbo over a supercharger. If you are anything like me your missing the torque of your V8's. The best way to get that back is with a turbo.

I can tell you, if you are going to drive your car everyday you may want to keep it simple and get something like the Vortech Tuner kit W/O Aftercooler, Ultimate Racing FMIC, Injectors and Go Hondata for the tune.

I spent at least a year of reading on this and other sites before I had a decent grip on Honda's after coming from GM's and Ford's. These rice rockets are a lot easier in some respects and much more of a PITA when it comes to many others. I particularly hate the lack of established vendors like domestics have, not to say there aren't good ones. Oh and I really hate hearing stupid stuff like Jspec and all the urge for so many to be just like the "Fast and Furious" but the S2000 is worth taking all that crap.

Good luck and happy reading

I'm moving to Hawaii three days after Christmas, and while I won't be driving it a lot there, and there's not much driving to do there, working on cars is my stress outlet. So i'm really looking at what my options are for making big power without having to do an engine swap.

If you are looking for "big power" I would definitely suggest the turbo over the supercharger. Check out Full-Race and Inline Pro's turbo kits. They are relatively simple installs and will net you the power you are looking for.

The only other thing you need is a competant tuner and you are set!

right now in the for sale section there is a partial comptech ($1200), a partial vortech ($2000), and a complete comptech non-aftercooled ($2300). so the cost is pretty cheap if you decide to go basic supercharger. pre-install items to do would be upgrade the clutch (depending upon wear/tear/age), an aftermarket fuel pump (walbro 255lph), and a wideband.

What kind of power are you looking for?

As far as turbo kits go, the only complete kit I know of is Mase's kit but you will pay more for it on the front end.

If you are looking for a good reliable kit on the cheap you may want to look at something like the Street Inline Pro kit.

If you don't mind spending the money and are mechaniclly inclined you might want to look at the Full Race, AFI Twin Scroll and the IP sidewinder which will all make very good power.

Mechanically Inclined? Check
Money? Reenlistment bonus ftw
So, where should I be looking for said kits?
(I'm also obviously new to the import vendors market, and Americn Muscle is decidedly lacking in S2000 parts. )

If you have the cash to spend my money would be on the Full-Race manifold or the IP sidewinder. Both companies are reputable and both have sold lots of kits. Really the major difference is in the amount of work you are willing to put into it.

Personally I like Full-Race kit but Geoff offer many of the little things he does like powder coating the charge piping, anodizing the IC and even offers a HPC coating on the header. On the flip side you also have to move the battery and the fuse box and the AC lines. The IP with good heat wrap can be an easier install. Either way you go you will need a welder for the exhaust, a grinder and some ingenuity to make everything work.
