new type turbo kit
This is interesting to me because I'm a WWII airplane buff and the P-47 Thunderbolt had this exact same setup with a gigantic turbo in the rear fuselage. The entire plane was built around this huge turbo (we're talking a few feet across here people) and the equally huge ducting that it required with the rear mounting.
The aircraft ended up being really big for a "fighter" as a result but kicked ass at high altitudes due to the turbo.
Which is ironic because it served out the last years of the war as a low level ground attack plane where the turbo was useless - but the size/durability of the plane was not!
Not sure why I posted this. Perhaps just to show that everything old eventually becomes new again.
Just waiting for the comeback of tailfins now...
