whats up guys....listen i got an 08' s2k turboed out, the works. But im having a problem. The turbo isn't spooling-no boost no nothing, and the factory guage for engine temp was off the chart. I have also noticed some dired up substance (liquid) towards the back of my motor and burned oil on top of the valve cover....on top of that my exhaust is spitting out more white smoke then a fright train..ya guys have any suggestions??

 

did you tap the oil pan? sounds like something could be wrong with that or alot of things aren't hooked up right

 

the shop told me that the smoke is from the turbo "breaking in" and i cant find any other reason why the other things are happening..just got it back from the shop a week ago...but im confident about the job, they are a pretty reputible shop

Turbo isn't spooling??? How do you know it's not spooling? Have you looked into the turbo while the car is on w/ the intake off so you can physically see the parts inside NOT spinning?

It makes no sense for the turbo not to spin, either it's locked up because it WAS spinning but got no oil and died already or there is a physical object blocking, or perhaps it's not getting air because there's a major manifold leak etc.

DO NOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE.... if the turbo isn't spinning you're potentially putting massive load on the motor because it can't get rid of the exhaust. The other thing that might happen is the Waste Gate would open to vent the extra air out since the turbo can't. I'm just guessing on this stuff here but you can see the potential issues.

the fins are spinning but when i pull i hear a slight spool then no boost..my vacuum guage also reads no boost...no mainfold leaks from what i cac see..

 

have you checked your intercooler pipes? if one came loose you wont see any boost but it will still run. (this happend to me, and it ran horribly...) on the white smoke it could be your turbo burning oil. do you have a resitrictor in the line? it may be getting too much oil.

 

the intercooler pipes seem fine...but i just noticed that my oil life is at only 5%...this could be a potential problem..from my understanding 10w 50 would be the way to go?

 

I had this problem in my old car (VW GTI) once. The boost gauge would read "-20" and I'd hear the turbo spool... My intercooler piping was messed up... as far as the oil goes, I hear 10w 30 is best no matter what.. but if you'd like to go with 10w 50... go for it!!

 

youre 'oil life' meter is nothing more than a counter.

10w50 is absolutely the wrong weight for our engines. use 10w30, and synthetic if possible.

if your car is shooting white smoke that is a sign of burning coolant - what kind of turbo do you have? is it ball bearing? if so it is likely water cooled. if your turbo is leaking coolant that would explain the white smoke AND the overheating engine..

MY08 with a turbo? i need more info. what kind of turbo? what turbo kit? management? mileage? everything.
