Default No spark!

My car developed a misfire on cylinder 2. I've swapped out the coils (usual suspect) and plugs (been a while) and was about to embark on a series of tests (swapping injectors, compression test, lead down test etc) but I thought I'd continue checking for spark.

I checked for levels on the three pins to the coil. There was a good 14v across two of the pins so I figured the remaining pin was signal. Could not detect any voltage there but figured as it was transient perhaps my digital multimeter wasn’t picking it up.

So I connected a HT lead between the coil and plug and put my timing light on it. No flash. I swapped to cylinder 1 and got a flash. Swapped back, no flash.

I will still do a leakdown test just to be sure but I suspect the issue is a my ECU not firing cylinder 2. Have you heard of this sort of thing before?

It is an AEM 1012. Toss up whether to post it here or in UTH but figured the AEM gurus are here.

I thought I read where this can happen. Box would need to be sent out to aem for diagnosis and repair.

Leak down and compression checked out fine.

I'm swapping in another AEM tomorrow and will see if that saves the problem. If so, my AEM is back in for repairs.

Well that took longer than expected.

I swapped the ECU for a 1052 today. It needed the CAL file off my ECU so I set them both up on a bench with a starter pack battery. I use Macs so I had to install VMWare and Windows. Modern computers don't have serial port so I had to use a Serial to USB dongle. I had to download some legacy drivers which say they are for W7 but worked fine.

The 1012 strangely uses channels 1, 2, 4, 5 to drive the injectors. Have to change this to 1, 2 ,3 ,4.

Plugged her in and turned the key and she started first go.

My 1012 is off for repairs. Found out AEM are discontinuing support/repairs on Series 1 ECUs on 31/12/14 (12/31/14 in US format). Glad I finally got around to diagnosing it.

I'm still bummed the iphone 4 isn't supported either...which still had several years life left. Unfortunately in retaliation, I purchased a note 4. And although is has more features, it lacks the all around finesse and ease of use...a feature to which I've likened the s2000 to.

My last iPhone was the 4. I jumped ship to Samsung Galaxy s3 then s4. If the iPhone 6plus had been out when I changed in would have stayed in the Apple family.
