my plans are to just bolt up said kit to my custom 70mm header back and go, but my gut thinks that this will cause a LOSS of boost.
Your exhaust wont lose you boost.

the exhaust will lean it out some. as for the VAFC to tune it, it does not like to add fuel, only subtract so if you had a FPR you would turn it up and lean out with the VAFC

Nope... all you need is to replace the pulley and belt if you're running a CTSC. For a Vortech you should already be at 7psi.

though keep the vafc for now because at that boost it would be a nice tuning tool

not in my case. I have a ctsc w/o ac running a 7lb pulley and header back exhuast. I tried putting it on the dyno with adding fuel through the fpr and then leaning it out with vafc. Didn't work. I wasn't getting enough fuel so i had to get injectors and emanage.

Maybe I should have clarified a bit more before stating that, but it really did work. 7psi on a car with nothing more than a stock CTSC will work just fine nearly everytime. Tossing an aftermarket exhaust on even a stock 5psi CTSC can possibly lean it out past the FPR's ability to compensate. Chances are your problem wasnt the amount of boost you were running, but was your exhaust.
I can vouch for that. Sticking on a test pipe leaned out my afrs by about 1 point give or take, across the range. Widebands are your friend I was able to compensate with the fpr, but it really wasn't the best setup, so switched over to emanage and larger injectors.
