Noobish question
OK, so I'm wanting to turbo my car but I've got to do it on a budget of $2500-$3000. Is this possible? I have a friend who is very familiar with FI, but he really only specializes in DSM. I've chatted with him on and off about making the jump to a turbo, he assures me that I can piece a kit together on the cheap. I've tried searching around but all I can really find are folks that go with a complete kit like Inline Pro or RevHard etc... I really don't have that kind of cash in my situation. Any help you guys could send my way would be very appreciated. Oh, and try not to flame me too hard for the noobness. Thanks.
My advice is to hold off until you have more money saved up. Yes, you can piece together a kit for that kind of money but you'll cut so many corners to get it to run halfway decent that by the time you're done breaking things you will have spent the same amount of money it would have cost to do it right in the first place.
not really possible on the S2000's unless you could build it from scratch yourself or find a crackhead deal on the kit. there's deals to be had if you're not too picky on the type of kit you want (comptech vs turbo vs kraftwerks, etc) but you'll still need a little more money. $3,000 might get you a used CT or VT kit if you catch the right deal at the right time but you'll still need supporting mods, engine management, fuel delivery, most likely a clutch, etc. that stuff adds up quick.
just save some more and do some research while you're saving up. if I had the money for turbo kit the first day I got my car I would have gotten a different kit than I'm going to get now, spent thousands more, and done a lot more work. I'm going to be much happier with the setup I'm going with now, sucks in the middle of it but patience pays off in the end
if anything save and watch the for sale section like a hawk

It's funny you should mention that because I just missed a deal on a CTSC for $2900. Patience has always been a very big downfall for me haha. Thanks for the advice, I may just try to piece it together bit by bit as I'm able to afford quality parts.
Candyman, do you have any suggestions on a quality manifold? I'm thinking of going with the RevHard right now, just wondering.

the problem with piecing together a kit is that with all the different setups out there you'll have to be careful to make sure all the parts you get will be happy together. one brand's manifold most likely won't work with another brand's downpipe or intercooler piping, etc.
what's your HP goal? that's a good place to start when looking at the different kits. if you only want 300-350whp and that'll make you happy, there's one set of options and prices. over 400whp and there's another set of prices and options. 400whp seems to be the magic number that splits up a lot of the kits.
keep saving man, do your tax return, that will be some more boost money

Unfortunately taxes are already spent...and I haven't even gotten them back yet
I'm paying off my truck with my returns. What would be truck payments will then go into savings for parts.
I'm only really looking for about 350hp or so. Not sure I could handle any more than that right now. Not really wanting to spend the money on the other parts I will need to keep it reliable.
Thanks alot for the quick responses and advice. I'm new to the FI scene and no one down here besides Fadi is really into all of this stuff.

that's cool, not having the truck payment will help the boost fund for sure. honestly under 400whp I would look at the stage one tuning supercharger kit, power everywhere and instant boost. camuman made 350whp @ only 8psi on a dynojet. not gonna find one for $3000 anytime soon though since there's not that many and it's pretty new. personally I'm going with Mase's turbo kit, I started another thread with more info on that.
