Thumbs up OAT & Manual Boost Controller!

I think I know the answer, but lately I have been getting slightly annoyed with my Boost Controller. It seems that every other day I have to pull over, pop the hood and play around to get my Boost back up to 9-10 PSI. Is this becuase of the temperature change outside? I normally have it set so it "spikes" at 10PSI then by red-line it gradually falls back to 8-9PSI, well today It Spiked at 9ish then falls to around 7-8. I am growing tired of the manual Boost Controller, and feel like I should of just went Electronic. Would the Electronic Boost controller help with the spiking? For me to run a constant 10PSI at WOT, I haver to sacrifice my engine (When I initially go WOT it spikes around 11psi, and I am not comfortably with that, I would rather have it spike at 10, then settle around 8ish or less the rest of the RPM, WOT run)

So basically I have 3 questions

1) OAT difference really make that much of a difference, some days I have to re-adjust with a temp difference, other days I don't)

2) Electronic Boost controller help with spiking?

3) Is it becuase I am using the "fine adjustment" knob as opposed to the "coarse" adjustment knob on the boost controller?

without a boost controller i hit 9.x psi in the top end.. 7.5 or so in the midrange

it might have to do with how much tension there is on the wastegate actuator arm;

before, i had too little tension there, and the flapper valve would open prematurely...i would peak at 7.5psi at around 4k rpms and go down to 5.5 by redline.. now its 7.5 at 4k and 9.3 or so at redline

When my Greddy turbo was installed last September, I was using the same manual controller you are currently using. I had the stock exhaust and a test pipe on at the time and didn't have a problem with spiking. I don't have any numbers or charts to prove it because so many things were screwed up on my car at the time there are just too many variables, but I was told by Toan that an electronic boost controller was better than a manual controller when using an internally wastegated turbo because of better boost spike control. I had already spent alot of money, so I figured why the heck not so I bought the rather pricy greddy e-01 boost controller/gauge from their display case. Toan thought it might be overkill before he started tuning but he told me he made good use of all of the e-01 features to smooth out my boost curve. I'm very happy with it. This is my current boost curve on a 65 degree day with the boost SET = 40 and the GAIN = 10.

marking for when i get home. quick note. my tuner at ams said mbc with spring/ball may be better at controlling boost spike than aem tru boost.

hmmmmmm.. I dunno sometimes it stays around 10, somtimes it falls to 8, sometimes its dead on accurate. I guess it depends on where the Ball/spring is when I go WOT, and at what RPM. I can count on it to be around 8-10psi, usually when I go hard WOT it spiked to around/slightly over 10psi then will either stay at 9ish to redline, or sometimes settle to 8psi. agian not a big deal just figured I would share my experience

Hows the Greddy PRof-B thing at controlling Spike?

EBC's are usually better at controlling boost but they are also harder to tune as there are up to 3 variables to control.

mine is doing the same, i have the mbc from inlinepro. I was wot a few days ago and it went straight to 23psi then i hit fuel cut. So i pulled over and turned it down to 21psi it held there for a few wot runs but it started going back to 22psi. So i turned it down more and it holds now at a solid 20psi but every now and then at wot it will vary between 19-21.5psi. Very frustrating. i just want it to go to 20psi and stay. It doesnt spike at all though. Whatever psi it goes to it stays solid throughout the gear.

manual boost controllers are shit. do yourself a favor and get a decent EBC. I'm a huge fan of the original GReddy Profec B.

For those with the AEM EMS arent we capable of controlling boost through the EMS? Could this be another option than having an electronic or mbc?
