Default Oil Cooler

I picked up this kit secondhand on ebay. It is a relocator and cooler with braided lines and AN fittings.

I mounted it horizontally below the bonnet vent. The idea is that air comes through the intercooler, condensor, radiator and then up through the cooler. I guess it's actually an oil warmer up to about 100C.

I'll have to do some logging to see how effective it is and if not, relocate.

Is that a custom thing or did a company make that?

I got it as a kit from a guy who had used it on a Honda Civic.

It's a universal relocator, a filter mount, a radiator and some braided lines and fittings. You can buy all these pieces separately and put them together or as a kit.

The dodgey looking mounts are just my work with some angle iron, a vice, a hammer and a saw.

It's currently held in the mounts with cable ties but I bought bolts for it today.

Can the stock oil pump deal with such big oil cooler, I made one with a motocycle oil radiator, (12 rows) but was worried about the oil pump and oil pressure.

I hope so. I'll have to monitor oil pressure.

I had a 19 row setup on my car and did not notice a change in oil pressure.

I got rid of it cause i couldn't stand some oil leaks that were driving me crazy from a few AN fittings, but other than that it was good to go.

Aus, you might have to shim the spring in the oil pump. I am currently expereincing some challenge with oil pressure due to the line, turbo, relocator and cooler...I have a cooler slighlty larger than yours and a restrictor for the turbo, unfortuantely vtec is intermittent when the car runs for a while due to the pressure.

By shim do you mean increase the spring pressure by compressing it with a shim?

I have the intermittent VTEC problem since the turbo install and am waiting on a reducer at present.

that restrictor may or may not work. In my case it too remained intermitent with the restrictor in place. Check this thread out:

Aus,

Shimming the oil relief valve wont fix the oil pressure problem if the oil pressure is falling below the pressure setting of the existing relief valve.

The relief valve only opens when the pressure exceeds the spring pressure/piston area.

If the oil pressure has reduced due to an increased flow requirement of the motor the only solution is to increase the oil flow from the pump or reduce the consumption requirement of the motor. If this only happens with high oil temps I would try a heaver grade of oil and do your best to get the oil temps under control.

Chris.
