Default Over Winter Turbo Build

OK I have been peicing together a turbo setup over this summer in preperation for the long Northeast S2000 down time called winter..

My last vehicle was a Supercharged 2003 Tiburon GT that made just under 300WHP and WTQ and I did all the work/tuning myself so I am not a toooootal newb to cars but this will be my first turbo setup of my OWN (helped friends build their cars in the past)

I am buying a winter vehicle in the next week or so and taking the S off the road as soon as snow is a threat.. (probly end of October) and I want to go into this thing prepared so I dont get any HUGE suprises (small is cool haha)

So far my setup includes..
Purcell Sidewinder Manifold
Purcell 3 inch Down Pipe
Purcell Dumptube
Tial 44mm Wastegate
Tial 50mm BOV
Spearco/Purcell Liquid/Air Intercooler
Spearco Coolant Pump
Spearco Front Mount Heat Exchanger
All Coolant Lines
AEM 1052U Engine Management
HKS 75mm Single Exhaust

CAR WILL BE RUNNING 92 OCTANE W/METH
Needed w/ questions:
1) Precision 6262 (in process of getting one) T3, 4 bolt, .82A/R

2) 3 Bar Map Sensor, Thinking SOS anyone recommend anything with a better "bang for the buck"

3) Boost Solenoid, where do I get one to work with my AEM and how do they communicate?

4) AEM Serial Gauge, Recommend 1 or 2?

5) Walbro 255, Enough fuel for 14psi?

6) ID1000s, Again, Enough fuel for 14 psi?

7) Oil Feed and Return Lines, -3an with what size restrictor? Wheres the best place to pull oil from and what all will I need fitting wise to make that happen? Also, oil pan is aluminum right? so an aluminum -10an WELD in bung if best? Where on the pan is the most ideal place to have it welded?

8)Gaskets and such, self explanitory

9)Catch Can setup, Best setup here? plan to weld 2 -10an bungs to my V/C

10)HeadGasket and Studs, This is my biggest question seen SO much controversy on it.. reccomendation for 14psi?

11) Clutch, Which setup is best for my setup without breaking the bank? Lightened flywheel a good idea?

12) AEM Meth Kit, pretty set on this unless anyone has a better setup for a decent price.

13)Anything I missed (no matter how small)

Thanks in advance for the help and sorry for all the questions!

Hey, I don't know how much money you want to dump, but I toyed with the idea of doing a direct port injection METH system, it was clear to me by looking at the valves that the majority of the METH goes into the 1st cylinder. I was going to pull the trigger but decided I am going to wait until it gets around 20F outside then go for a Q16 tune to break the 600RWHP goal

One thing for sure is I havent driven my car since August and I miss it....badly

Air to Water Intercooler will be interesting. As long as you don't heat soak it you should make great low boost numbers.

I haven’t heard good things about the HKS, you may want to search around some more. Personally I like my boost actuated cutout and the ASURA system I had but I am sure others can chime in.

1.) Are you sure you want a 0.82 A/R what is your goal?

2.) Hondata and Omni also have plug and play sensors

3.) The AEM solenoid is actually made by MAC you can buy one at frightprops.com with a muffler shipped for $30 look for PT# 35AA-AAA-DDBA-1BA. It is a simple solenoid and wires back to the D connector in the EMS.

4.) Serial Gauges are good but they are a real PITA to program. Check out DasDAQ.com for a really nice solution.

5.) If you are running Pump gas then yes that will leave you plenty of head room

6.) If you are running Pump gas then yes that will leave you plenty of head room

7.) Line size does not matter use what is convenient. As for the restrictor, it depends on the center section you select; JB, Water Cooler and Ceramic all take different sizes. Personally I liked IP's solution to tap the front of the pan for my build but everybody seems to have their own opinion. I have not had problems with the pan on any of my kits but other think the pan girdle is the ticket b/c of their experiences.

9.) There are a lot of choices, just make sure you use a large enough filter on whatever you go with.

10.) If you don't have to remove the head I would not. If you do I would recommend the studs for convenience, they are reusable, easier to torque then the factory bolts and make it easy to set the head.

11.) Again depending on your power goals things may change but, if you are looking for under 550WHP then I would suggest and ACT with factory clutch disc. After that there are no good cheap solutions unless you want a puck clutch. The best I have driven has been the Competition Clutches 1680 "IronMan". Oh, and I would stay away from lightened flywheels, just resurface yours and call it good.

12.) Heat Management - IE heat shields and sleeves, Turbo Blanket
ARP Exhaust Studs
Set of BKR8EIX Plugs
AC Hose Relocation Kit
Depending on your manifold design, relocating the battery and moving the fuse box
Fuel Pressure Gauge / Tapped Fuel Rail
If you pull the head you may want to think about Valve's, Springs, Seals, Guides.....
SOS Throttle Body b/c you are using Meth

What Meth kit are you using? Auquamist?

Good Luck
1) yes, .82 cuz I plan on running 14 psi now then building the motor over the next season (spare motor) then going for a higher boost setup the next season.. so this shouldnt be too laggy on 14psi but with enough headroom for more later..

2)Thanks, which is the best price?

3)Thanks for the info here..

4)Ill check into them.. thanks

5) 6) I figured as much thanks for the confirmation

7) I plan running JB so which size is best?

9) I know theres a lot but all I ever read is how they somehow dont work the way they should.. which is the best way to set it up?

10) And if a gasket or studs is needed all that would happen would be I would blow my stock gasket right? It wouldn't do anymore damage correct?

11) Im fine with a puck clutch.. had an unsprung 6 puck in my tiburon and I was fine with it so which would be suggested?

12)Thanks for all these suggestions!

You can get 520whp+ out of the 5857 turbo with much better response than the 6262.
If your shooting over 550whp then good choice.

If you want to do direct port you would need:
4 nozzles (90cc - 200c each)
more hose
3 Y-connections or a 5 port block with fittings
Meth tank and pump

You have the tank and pump in your kit but make sure you have the new AEM kit with the 200psi Aquatec pump.

get some stage 8 locking bolts for all vibration prone connections, turbo to mani, DP etc.

also if your looking for an AEM meth kit,
I have one with a few thousand miles on it boxed up & ready to go. It comes with custom sturdy aluminum brackets to mount the tank & pump. Paid 420 shipped, plus the aluminum stock & labor. Looking for 350 shipped

Good info thanks! And yes I am shooting for over 550WHP actually looking more towards 800 when its all said and done.. this summer Im happy with whatever the 14psi produces.. Im imagining somewhere in the 450-500WHP range

Yea I forgot to list bolts and such.. planned on ALL grade 8 stuff with lock nuts.. always use those on my stuff..

And thanks for the offer on the meth kit but its not in the cards right this moment.. although I have spent a ton on my car already there is a method to my budget on it haha and I cant break from that.. next on the list was meth or injectors so I will be getting in touch with you if you still have it kicking around! Thanks

Also, where would I find the right fittings and hose to use with meth?
