Overheating issues
Hey guys, I've been building my S2K for a few months now. I got almost everything done to it, and now that I'm putting the engine back together I'm running through this problem that's making me loose my mind. I changed sleeves, pistons, rings, rods, and I balanced everything and I added a block guard to the block It looks sick! Following all the correct steps I finally put the engine back together, and when I turn it on, it sounds amazing. Taking it easy to break it in in the first few hundred miles before I can tune it and dyno it. The issue is that it's getting hot. I have read all kinds of advice at this site, but still can't figure out what's going on. The bottom hose feels like there is no hot water coming through it. The heater doesn't work and the temperature keeps going up. Of course I don't let it get to the red, but if I keep it on, it will get there. I put the car up and bled the system many times from both bleeders, and I get coolant coming out of them when they are hot. I checked the hoses and they both seem fine from the beginning to the end. I also changed the thermostat to a new one from Honda. The old one had nothing wrong with it. I also changed the water pump. At this point I'm lost and have no idea what else to do. If anyone went through a similar problem please let me know. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Sounds like theres still air pocket in the coolant system. I took note that you changes your sleeves in the block. What aftermarket sleeve did you go? I'm thinking with open sleeves like Benson or darton sleeves you don't need to run a block guard. I ran block guard before on my turbo integra gsr and it was clogging my coolant system like crazy. Took it out and the car ran fine with no overheating. I would take off that block guard if you have a built block with sleeves from other company already.

I was thinking the same thing maybe block guard causing over heating, looks like he has stock sleeves bored with dry sleeve pressed in.

As others have said, bleeding the system correctly is extremely important in guaranteeing you don't over heat the motor; especially when you say you don't have heat in the cabin. Having a look at that block and the block gaurd, I am not surprised though that you may have issues with flow though! The holes drilled into that guard are incredibly small and would be an extremely apparent cause of your issues, especially considering Honda engineered the cooling system to run with an open bore setup.
