Default Painting Supercharger -

I have a vortech non-polished SC and want to do something with it as it's not installed on my car yet.

Polishing is a big job and might require disassembly (espeically since i'm considering polsihing both parts), that means new bearing and seals. (According to Vortech)

So, i'm thinking about powerdering coating it whole (which bakes the SC to about 500 degrees), will that be an issue with the seals?

Otherwise I was thinking about priming and painting.

Can anyone advise on the best course of action? powder coating seems like the better direction as it's more durable/reliable in terms of chip resistant. But if I need to do a rebuild since it will melt the seals or something then i'll rethink

Just powder coat it. The volute just unbolts from the blower itself easily. No need to replace anything when taking it off. Just 1 seal that can be reused.

I wouldn't coat the entire blower since there are seals in there.

I did mine 2 and a half years ago now and looks good as new.

I just had my compressor cover powdercoated black. As Moddiction said, it just unbolted from the blower assembly. Don't bake the whole thing, just do the compressor cover.

I want to do both parts + aftercooler. I was hoping they could just mask off the vortech label and bake away.

Not sure how hot the S/C gets under extreme conditions, but if it's more then 500f then powdercoating shouldn't be an issue

I wouldn't coat the whole thing. Will most likely melt the seals. Powder coating is usually baked at 400 degrees.
