Default PAR Syncromesh Engagement (Straight cut)

So after costing everything out, It seems the PAR Gearset (for what I plan on doing) is going to be a better choice than a V160 swap. ($5200-$6400) I was looking at Kings performance webpage (http://store.kingsperformance.com/pr...t-straight-cut) and there is an added option for the reduction gear. What exactly is the job of the reduction gear and how weak is the OEM one?

The other question I have, is what is the going rate for someone to install these gears in my OEM case?

Thanks

Also, with my power 635, (not planning on much more) would a Dogbox engagement allow me to shift that much quicker and run a faster ET. The main issue I have now is not using all the power down loa, I really want to lay down a lot of power in 2nd......

The stock reduction gear is 1.16:1 which connects the secondary shaft to the countershaft. Think of it a common gear in the tranny, similar to a final drive. I've never heard of these breaking under load.

Good topic, I was just browsing the dox bog gears available for our tranny as well. I believe you need to add cost of the syncros as well, since you're in there.

Here's another dog box supplier: http://www.ericksracing.com/HONDA-S2...2k-dog-tra.htm

King's Performance dog-box is manufactured by Frana Vehicles and includes 1st thru 4th dog-gears only. 5th & 6th gear reuse your stock helical gears. I suppose you can reuse your synchros for 5th & 6th to minimize cost.

The PAR unit includes all 6 gears which are straight cut.

Below is the King's dog-box; you can see they retain stock 5th & 6th gears.

Edit: looks like King's offers two configurations from different manufacturers.

PAR straight cut w/syncro $5295 (all 6 gears): http://store.kingsperformance.com/pr...t-straight-cut
Frana dog-box $5999 (1-4th gears only): http://store.kingsperformance.com/pr...g-box-gear-set
PAR dog-box $6420 (all 6 gears): http://www.ericksracing.com/HONDA-S2...2k-dog-tra.htm

If you get the PAR dog-box, you don't need any syncros (as you're using dog gears). I may have muddied the waters by bring the other manufacturer (Frana) into the mix where you can buy syncros for 5th & 6th gears (as they use the stock gears).

If you get the PAR straight cut gears from King's, you may need to buy the syncros if it's not included. Looks like the PAR version on King's site is a streetable version. It's not a true dog box, but straight cut gears with syncros. The PAR on Eric's site is a true dog box setup.

getting these gears will not strengthen the case of the trans, which is exactly how mine broke mid 4th gear pull, just a heads up that could still happen
