Default PLX gauge ?

Anyone out there using the PLX gauges (Ex: DM-6,100 or 200) ?
Any comments good or bad ?
Anyone sure if they have to go thru the OBD2 or can you run them thru EMS ?

Thx

I'm using the DM-6 to monitor A/F, oil pressure and oil temp. I'm using the DM-100 (plugged into OBD port) to monitor IAT's, boost, water temp, etc.

Unfortunately my motor popped shortly after installing them so I don't have a lot of real world experience with the gauges yet.

i had the dm100 with 4 parameters. i did not trust the readings i was getting. switched to aem afr and prosport gauges and never looked back. they look nice for sure, but i didnt feel comfortable with the reaction time of the readings nor what i was seeing. not being a hater at all, they are nice, just be careful.

I had pre-ordered 2 of the dm-100 touch gauges last november (release originally to be dec2012/jan2013) and emailed them (in march) to see what was going on. PLX replied about a month later saying the gauge was still under development. I am now trying to get my money back since the gauges aren't out (almost half a year has gone by). In my opinion, it was bad planning with a pre-order on something that didn't exist for some time.

I do have a dm-6 (ordered at the same time) and the display is nice. Gauge is very compact, although it "feels" cheap.

The sensor modules....I have no idea what made them decide on the coax style power plug (or the headphone-jack to connect the modules), but they can make installing the boxes a bit of a pain. Also I have 5 modules and I had to take them apart so I could slide them together, but like I said, the power plug and headphone jack just doesn't make sense/takes too much space.

I like the idea behind one gauge being able to do so much....but the execution with quality production seems lacking, not to mention current costumer service.

Thanks for all the comments so far, greatly appreciated.

The MAIN points for me on the gauges are:
1.) 1 gauge only...I don't want multiple gauges
2.) Water temp & oil pressure mainly...but I was going to throw in Wideband and boost too
3.) Low profile
4.) Accurate, esp the water & oil => Wy2slows comments below concerning

Any recommendations OTHER than the PLXs ? I wanted to keep it simple and was thinking the DM6 or 100 only.

Thanks

I have the OBDII unit and display 4 parameters at once. I also have a few of the modules connected to them. I really like them a lot. I think the reaction time is fine, although it could be faster. I'm not sure about the coax power cable. All my modules have a 4 pin connector for power, ground, 5v output, but I've had them for a while. They might have changed them. You can you them with the AEM EMS. I currently run the 5v output from my wideband to my EMS and it works great, just have to scale within the EMS obviously. As for the headphone jack in/outputs, I think they are great and make installing them very easy, although, there are a lot of wires going on. I just mounted them under my seat so they're out of the way. FWIW, I've had a PLX wideband on my Prelude for 10 plus years. Still works wonderfully!

As for Wy2slows comment on the accuracy, he was probably referring to the speed at which they update, which would only really be a concern with things like A/F ratio and boost. It's not like they are really slow or anything, especially for things like water temp and oil pressure that don't fluctuate as much as A/F and boost.

I had oil pressure. Afr. Boost on mine. I was running 14 psi at the time. And the gauge read 5psi peak.... oil pressure was pretty close. 80 cold start 20 when warm.... "close". Afr was the only one that seemed accurate. I bench tested the gauges I have now. They all are very accurate. Its solid piece of mind when you're running lots of boost on a stock motor.

I had the DM100. AFR, boost, oil pressure. Couple things I didn't like is the screen when top down. I couldn't see what it was reading on sunny days. Also the modules take up quite a bit of space once you get more sensors.
I replaced them with aem sensors and a serial gauge connected to my ems. The serial gauge was definitely harder to set up tho but now I monitor 10+ parameters. I'm also beta testing a Bluetooth module that plugs into the aem ems to read all the same parameters the serial gauge does on my iphone or ipad mini at the same time. It's pretty slick.

Other than the screen being hard to read w/ top down/sunny day.....accuracy of the gauge, reliable ?

Bluetooth module - Saw that thread and looks interesting....but need something sooner not later. Thanks and hope that becomes a real option in the future

Owner of a DM100 gauge. Have a wideband, oil pressure and oil temperature sensors hooked up. Works great for me. Color matched the text to my dash. Looks like it came from the factory, Sensors have a little lag but not enough to bug me. besides, as soon as the car was tuned I rarely glance at it. Mostly use it to keep an eye on the oil temp and a/f if the outside temp changes drastically.
