Same thing happened to me....change your plugs with stock gap ngk's. I am 99% positive that is the problem. should run up to 8500rpm with no problem after you get new plugs.

Sounds good. I have 57000 on the origional plugs. I will try that and see. Crod, do you think I should put the gap down to .33?

i had stock plugs @ 25k and they blew out with .43 gap. i put in one step colder NGK Iridium and they still blew out @ .43 gap. I narrowed them down to .33 and BAM +20whp and no more stumble.

Thanks Khan, the only plugs they had in the whole tri-cities were the bosch platinum. So since they were a dollar something a plug I put them in. My NGKs will be here tomorrow. Just to see, I ran through the gears once and got a little popping not as bad and a small loss of power in the high rpms. It was a little jerky up top. I really didn't want to run these plugs but it's my daily and I have to have something to drive.

Mine used to sometimes "pop" at redline and during some heel-toe action. I was seeing AFRs in the 10s during mountain cruises. Gaping my BKR7E plugs to .030 and a retune resolved this for me.

Didnt read post but, most off the shelf flashes are tuned really conservative aka on the rich side. If you are catless it is most likely a backfire from unburnt fuel that the cat would normally detonate. Even with a cat it will still backfire like that. I would get a retune or at least get hooked up to a sniffer to see what your AFR are looking like.
