Default Power problem with Vortech

Hi Guys,

I've got a problem with my Vortech installation that I can't seem to solve. I have a very severe hesitation during acceleration while accelerating at full throttle.

The following dyno shows this problem, the first trace is with my "MAP" sensor (hesitation at +/-6000 RPM), the second was done a few minutes later with a "MAP" sensor from a friends car (hesitation at +/- 6500 RPM).

So far I have done the following, none of which have helped:

- Checked and soldered all electrical connection
- Checked all vacuum connections
- used two different "MAP" sensors
- reduced the VTEC piont to 5000 RPM (with VAFC) transition to hi-cams is OK, car still hesitates at 6000 RPM
- adjusted valve clearance
- replaced plugs and regapped them
- removed SC belt car drives OK normally aspirated
- checked that ECU is not seeing boost, VAFC never reads positive pressure
- no CEL is thrown
- reset ECU many times

I should also say that this is the second S2000 engine on which I've installed this SC, the first engine was fine until I scored cylinder 4.

I'm not sure what else I can do other than replace the Vortech black box?

If anyone else has had this, or a similar problem?

Please help?

Id say try taking out the vortech timing box.I personally had a problem with mine braking up at high rpm.The vortech box is actually made by split second racing and it only starts taking out timing at 6k and up,right at you're trouble spot.Remove the box entirely and take for a drive. If this fixes it get a new box as i don't recommend driving without it.Good luck...Joe

I had the same problem and was able to get a reprogrammed black box from Vortech which solved the issue.

Thanks for the feedback

It seems I'll need to get a new timing box from Vortech, as I'm in Europe does anyone know the best way to do this and what it would cost?

John_Z, What do you mean by a programable box? Where did you get this and what did it cost?

Vortech Black box is re-programmable thru its serial port.

Do you need a special application for programming the Vortech box?

Does any one have any information on this?

I suggest you contact Splitsecond directly. You can find them HERE.
Vortech gets almost a thousand dollars for a new box.
