Default When removing the air pump

When removing the air pump, not the engine , does the valve on the intake manifold need to be blocked off or can you just leave the valve in place and it'll stay shut?

I always see people saying that they blocked it off but is that just so you can remove the valve and get a different look, and also lose that .1 pound.

That is correct. Just don't hook the vacuum to it and it won't function.

I disagree, you can feel exhaust gasses escaping through that valve with the engine on even with the vacuum line disconnected.

So you think the block off valve is required. I'll have to go check my in a minute to see if I feel them also.

Damn, I just took out my air pump last night. I was hoping that I could just disconnect the pump without using a block-off plate .

I just went out and checked. I could not find any deffinitive evidence that any air comes out. I could not feel any air coming out of the valve at all even when reving it up a little. Is there someone with a a more clear cut answer to if air does come out of the valve.

I just took a look at the air pump and now I think that if you leave the solenoid on the car then you don't need a block off plate because it will stay shut since it has no function with the EMS. Is this correct?

Has anyone found a solution to fixing the CEL caused by taking the pump out? I read a thread a while back when some guys were trying to do it.
