made my own trans mount from stock mount
used plate 100 bucks

so 3400ish with trans... not to shabby.

i think fullblown kits are 3800 with TD, and need trans still... so add 6-1000 dollars

so i pieced mine together fairly cheap.
I dont believe that is an accurate representation, because 4 of the 5 people ( you being 5th) I know with them, have had cd009 issues, bobs 5th gear, jareds 2nd gear, my 2nd gear and someone else hated it so bad they sold it and went back to stock. so the cost of a "used trans" is only the entry price, not a long term solution

IDK my trans feels great? Could also be shifter issues?

One day id like to send trans out and get face plated and freshened up though. I think be a really awesome trans after that.

a lot don't like them too, cause of the noise. So i ended up covering my whole inside with damper pro, and cut the noise down a TON!

So, how will the stock case hold up to 1000whp with the PPG gearset? I was always under the impression that the case couldn't hold the load on the gears and the mesh begins to separate, eventually causing a gear failure as what usually happens with 2nd gear in stock form. I opted for the RPM T56 GForce billet built trans because it will handle the power with ease but I honestly would love the stock trans back in the car with a PPG gearset if it was guaranteed to be able to handle 1000 whp abuse.

in all honesty how many cases have actually cracked on our cars? I have not heard of too many incidences personally. Kings performance went into the 9s with a PPG transmission.

Most shops will push for the swap kit as there is more money to be made that way. I can be wrong on this though.

I lost my first tranny during a hard 2nd gear pull during some canyon carving. How would PPG gears prevent the flexing or whatever that occurs during hard 2nd gear pulls?

Anybody building parts aimed for extreme levels of performance that "guarantees" things won't fail at some point is full of shit. The reality is that stuff happens and parts fail. With that being said, 1,000hp is what PPG advertises their gearsets for our cars at. I wouldn't feel comfortable telling you that it's going to last forever at that power level, and I doubt they would either. A huge factor is how the car is being used obviously. For someone drag racing on slicks at those power levels there may be other options that will last longer.

The shafts are significantly stronger for starters.

I am definitely interested. This is my 4th S2000 now and it's primarily because of how awesome the transmission feels. I'd rather be stuck at 500whp than do a tranny swap.

I only do highway stuff so I'm hoping PPG gears, Puddymod diff with 3.63s, and SOS twin disk are enough to max out my 6262.

If I remember correctly the PPG Dogbox sets will run you upwards of $9K-$10K. The synchro sets were slightly cheaper around $6K or so. This pricing is from several years back so I'm sure things have changed. The main issue with the ppg setup was getting replacement parts if you did break something or damage the dog rings as PPG isn't local and didn't stock many replacement parts for our cars. As for Joeyballs I think he had bent a fork.
