Pros and cons of hood exit?
I came across a deal on a Schmuck build hot parts kit and I am hesitant to cut holes in my hood as my car is completely stock from the outside. Even on stock ride height. Is their any advantage to going with hood exit aside from looking cool? AlsoI noticed a lot of people that have hood exit or side exit have black soot. How bad is this?
Thanks

Hood exit and side exit will be done due to piping size and heat. You want to keep as much heat away from the battery and fuse box; that is why many people relocate them when they go turbo.
They do hood cuts for either a hood dump and hood cut to help keep the temps lower; More air will get into the motor and More hot out will get out.
Pro's
Lets more air in and hot air out
More custom ways to run your downpipe/exhaust due to hood side pipe option
Most people who do this show there temps drop when driving
Con's
Not sure if you can do hood dumps in your Sate could be illegal it is in CA
Kills resale of a stock hood can't really revert back
Go to be careful driving in the rain with water getting in
I would look into a carbon fiber hood with cuts or vents if you don't want to cut into you OEM
You can also find another OEM hood that's been cut up I have seen a few on the market.
If you are a try hard 10 VIN guy it's not ideal if you are thinking resale

If anyone can document the benefits of cutting holes, which may be a more accurate tern than vents, in the hood please post the links. Yeah some heat will come out by mere convection when parked but these holes are within the air boundary layer when the car is moving. To get air INTO the hood requires a large external scoop or NACA duct. I don't think just a hole in the hood is going to draw any much air OUT of the hood other than by convection. When my other car needed to sit at idle in 90°F earlier month week to apply a 40 minute navigation update I opened the hood and the radiator fans didn't run as hard or fast but that was the whole hood, not a few square inches.
Just looking for more knowledge, I have no intent of doing this.

A hood exit isn’t really about air flow under the hood or keeping temps down.
Some reasons for it are:
- weight reduction since you’re not running a full exhaust
- can run a larger rear setup (super 8.8, 9 inch/4 link setup)
- for some manifolds it reduces backpressure in the exhaust/ turbo
The downside to it:
-you will have exhaust build up on your hood and wind shield or on the fender
-you’ll smell like exhaust all the time and you’ll be breathing in fumes while driving around.
-You also have to worry about some idiot dropping something into the hood exit because it’s cool or funny to do and causing damage to your turbo when you start it up. Same with the rain, you don’t really want to have your dumptubes and exhaust open to the elements if you have a hood exit. Fender exit is not as bad.
