Default PTE 5431

Was doing a search for this turbo on here and I couldn't find any info on it. I would appreciate any info I can get regarding the following:

Spool up time...
What A/R to choose...
Log or Equal Length Manifold... (I want faster spool and heard a log would spool faster?)
Will it be able to hit 400WHP...
Dyno Sheets...

Or if anyone has another turbo to recommend me please let me know

I mainly want a turbo for autocross. I want something small with wicked fast spool and hopefully be able to hit 400whp.

Here are some specs for this turbo:

Manufacturer: Precision
Part Number: 5431
Compressor: Cast
Bearing Options: Journal Bearing
Model: 5134
Power Class: 480hp

Compressor Wheel Diameter: 54mm/70mm
Turbine Wheel Diameter: T31
Compressor Housing Options

* B Cover - 2 5/8"in/1 3/4"out

Turbine Housing Options

* T3 4 Bolt - .48, .63, .82

I'm not sure on the specifics but from what I've read, I would at least get a ball bearing vs journal bearing turbo if you want the best spool. Also, I believe the smaller the A/R, the better spool you will get. If you never plan on going for more horsepower, go with the smallest turbo that will put out a little more than your goal.

I'll leave the rest up to the pros. Good luck

The downside to ball bearing turbos is they are not rebuildable. If you burn one up, you have to replace it.

You don't want a log. A 5857 ball bearing spools really fast. I hit 422whp with 13psi with mine

True, but I also dont want it to fall flat on top because of the small A/R

I dont think you will hit 400whp with that turbo unless you run a lot of boost.
Its max is 480 at the crank.

Get the 5857 Billet, JB or BB depending on your budget

5857 ball bearing only. Journal bearing precisions die due to the f2x super high oil pressure. We even have to run 2 restrictors on the ball bearing ones to decrease how much oil gets to the turbo

I ran a .062 restrictor on my JB and its fine

Based on your wants assuming you have the turbo kit, motor and tuning to back up the 400HP goal, I would say you will probably want something smaller than a 5857 but larger than the 5431. I would take a look at a something in the GT2876R with T3 flange and a .82 AR.

As for the manifold, if you are DD the car also I would stick with a bottom mount and my (2) choices are the IP Street Kit and the Ptunning kit. Since you are autocrossing the car I would suggest that you look for an ELT so that you can build low end torque.

Here is a torque graph of the (4) setups on my car for reference.
