Default Question about my turbo

I fired the car up for the first time the other day.

I pulled the fuel pump fuse, and cranked her over a good 10 times to build some oil pressure.

Popped the fuse back in, turned another couple times and she fired up.

Everything seems great, however when I rev the car from the engine bay ( a little bit, couple thousand rpm @ most) I hear a slight "metal'ish" sound from the turbo. Sounds like teh bearings. Keep in mind it was brand new.

As soon as the revs fall down it goes away...

I turn off the car and while it spins down I can hear it...not bad, but noticable, I know my 30r was dead silent.

Thoughts?

Anyone else hear this?

Take the air cleaner out and check if the compressor blade touching the wall. Wiggle it up and down, see if there is a big tolerance.

You can't verify the turbine blade, you need to take the downpipe out.

......or maybe you are paranoid?

If its not hitting the housing then make sure u have the right restrictor in place to make sure its gettin enough oil or not enough.

Sounds like an odd problem. First off, I would pull the oil feed/return lines and check them and make sure you were getting oil pressure. As others recommended, check for play in the wheel/shaft.

Adam, make sure the 4 small bolts that hold the compressor housing to the CHRA are tight. A lot of times Precision doesnt tighten all the bolts and you need to go over everything to make sure everything is tight. I forgot to check these 4 bolts when I first put the turbo on and while out street tuning, a plume of smoke came into the car. We stopped to check what it was and I had a bad oil leak from these 4 bolts being loose. I mean, they were very loose. We went back to my tuner/buddies house and tightened them up, cleaned up the mess of oil and all is good now. This may not be your problem but its worth checking out. Mine never leaked until we really started ripping on the car while tuning and there was really high oil pressure. It could have burned my car to the ground......

I'm going to look it over tonight.

I'll check oil/etc and clearances.

As for the restrictor, it has one built.

I had tightened teh exhaust side bolts after I got the turbo on the car...well they weren't very tight still..so I tightened them again, seems to have helped..

Time will tell I guess.
