Thumbs up Questions about F/I & the Transmission

Guys, I think there might be a thread on this but if not, great, if so, link me to it.

What exactly is the weak part of the Transmission?

I don't launch the car EVER, when I shift "fast", it is still relatively slow and wait until the car is completely in gear before going WOT.

Also what the hell is a Syncrho and what does it do and what is 400 Ft/lbs of Torque going to do to it at WOT in the Higher gears?

I know this is kind of a newbish question, considering I have been around for a few years know, but ya know

I was under the impression the gears and the syncros get destroyed (basically all of the internals lol).

from what i have read, the reduction gear, and 2nd gear are ussually the first to go. and at your power levels, things start to break in gear wot.

just ignore it and have fun. if it lasts 2 years and then breaks, get a used replacement and go another 2 years hopefully.

Staying away from hard launches is going to help you out alot! Frana vehicles has some gear sets coming out that should be pretty decent and ithink they are going to be cheaper than a ppg setup. Realistically the ppg sets just dont seem right for the street.

In all the drag racing and launches I've done, I never broke first gear (And I launch this car a ton, at least 50 passes last year). I immediately upgraded the reduction gear once I got the car. It already had an R200 in it as well. I didn't destroy any synchro's either. But I did break 2nd gear, twice. Both times was on the street, during a roll.

So from my experiences, 2nd gear is the weak link.

HP range was ~650 or so.

Ok, I am keeping the HP level under 400 for gears 1 & 2, (thinking about upping HP to 450 in 2nd, but maybe now I wont) so that should be good, its gears 3&4 that see the most WOT, but never "powershift" into them or anything

2 years would be great, I was just worried about it lasting a few months before it goes to hell

Where did you purchase an upgraded reduction gear from and do you remember how much it cost?

That's probably a good idea. 1 and 2 really can't hold much more than that traction wise anyways. Unless you have a really sticky tire. Then you'll break 2nd gear trying to pour on more power like I did. This wasn't a freak occurrence either. I broke 2nd gear, debated what to do, bought a stock replacement, and broke it the next time I floored it in 2nd.

Now in my situation, I had a taller rear end ratio, taller tires, and a taller reduction gear. So maybe that additional mechanical load made 2nd gear fail prematurely??? I'm not sure. After the 2nd one broke, I gave up and upgraded...haha.
