Yeah, you guys share my thoughts exactly. That cylinder was the one with the mostdamaged spark plug. Picture is below. I'm gonna clean up the piston a bit and see how it looks.

I'm hoping the cylinder head will prove itself ok. I didn't do a leakdown since the compression was low.

As far as rebuild goes, anyone know if special techniques are required to hone and polish our cylinder sleeves since they are fiber reinforced aluminum? Or can I simply take it to a reputable engine rebuilder (there are a few in the area) who will hone a four cylinder for around $150.00?

Numbered 1-4 left to right.

The worst of the bunch.

Oh, wow Camuman. You definitely earned your keep on that one. Some of the grounding part of the electrode came off. Not sure if it melted, disintegrated, or simply broke off but I think parts of it joined the piston in holy matrimony.

Yep, thats what happened to the top of your piston and bowl of the cylinder head. That chunk was rattling around in there for a bit before it got spit out. Id say, just leave it and go. It should be ok and the damage it just a little bit if pitting on the piston tops. Be very careful cleaning off the tops of the pistons though and I dont recommend doing it. You can knock stuff off down in between the piston and cylinder that will be very difficult to remove and it can score the cylinder wall. I used to run leaded race fuel and the tops of my pistons were nasty with lead deposits all over them. I was thinking about taking some brake cleaner and spraying it on a rag to clean it off, but before I did, I asked a local engine builder if it would be ok and he said to leave it alone because of what I mentioned previously. Because I am switching to e85, he said that the e85 will clean all that off on its own over time when I run it.

Just a FYI

wow, it takes some serious heat to melt a plug like that. How long of a run did you do?

I was probably mashing on it for a good 3-4 minutes or so. I'm wondering if the ignition timing was too aggressive. It seems relatively conservative but perhaps no good for repeated runs. I'm far from an expert, this much I know. I'm still leaning toward the lack of water in aftercooler being the culprit. It's disappointing I wasn't logging since I'd like to the see the IAT's. T.T

You bring up a good point on price. Perhaps, I'll give simply running with a new head gasket and reuse the bolts (if they measure over 11.50mm diameter) and see how the compression improve.s (I'll still get the head spec'd for sealing.

Actually considering using that bottom end as is, no piston? Man Id figure this would be culprit for at least a re hone and a set of pistons.

I dont think the parts from Majestic are true OEM. I think they are manufactured under OEM specs through a different manufacturer but I could be wrong. If this is true though, Id stay away from their stuff as quality wont be as stringent as Honda quality control is.
