[QUOTE=s2000Junky,Dec 7 2009, 09:15 PM] Actually considering using that bottom end as is, no piston?

I've revised my budget for the rebuild. I don't plan on reassembling it as is. To do so would be morally offensive to what it is.

Option 2:
Have head inspected and tanked: 80.00
New OEM Head Gasket: 55.00
Reuse Head Bolts: FREE!
New Spark Plugs: 40.00
New OEM Piston Set B: 165.00
New OEM Rings Set: 35.00
Honing/Polishing Block: 150.00
Investigate Aftercooler Situation: FREE!
Upgraded Clutch: 500.00
Test Pipe: 100.00
~1150.00

Any thoughs on the ignition timing? For honing I should be able to stick with the same size piston but I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to replace the conn rod pins/clips and con rod and crankshaft bearings while I'm down there. (So many sizes gah!) Engine has ~75k miles on it with about 30k of those under the comptech.

^^^Educate yourself on water/meth injection kits if you haven't already, on your set up/boost level you wont have to worry about running too much timing or having detonation issues if you run this stuff, you shouldn't anyway at your level, you obviously had an issue, but if you continue to have issues the water/meth will be a safety barrier protecting your motor. I run 9psi on the stock timing map, stock everything for that matter. Due to that I also make as much power as someone running a CT kit at 10-11psi with standard timing retard for that level without water/meth injection. God, most kits are only $300-$500 and you can hook it up in a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon. Tuning it is simple as long as you have some basic understanding of what your affecting.

I'll definitely look into it. I have my 3.0" pulley in hand and am investigating ordering the above items. I was contemplating meth injection before this happened. The only thing holding me back was that a 5 gallon tank in the trunk might eliminate my ability to carry golf clubs.

I think I'm going to go with the SOS clutch unless anyone thinks sourcing a newer ACT pressure plate and getting an OEM disk is better. I'm aiming to eventually push around 380whp or more.

Btw, I hate snow. :/

5 gal is WAY overkill, you don't need that big of a tank unless your racing lap after endless laps at WOT. 1 gal is plenty for the street. You can put it in the trunk and still have room for the clubs, that's where I had mine, but eventually I moved it up under the hood and ditched the 1 gal tank, I robbed the fittings and sensor from it and converted over a 1/2 gal radiator overflow tank to use instead. Some guys have converted the wiper reservoir to be used but I wanted to keep my wiper fluid and I didn't like that you had to take the fender off to inspect or service it if need be. But regardless, 1 gal tanks are the norm supplied with most meth kits.

I would definitely run meth with the 3" pulley.

Alrighty. engine is out and on a stand now. I've ordered OEM pistons and rings as well as a head gasket. I'm planning to go with the SOS Comp Stage 2 clutch. Anyone have any recommendations on meth kit? AEM seems to have a nice setup.

Also, a clarification is in order. The water temp gage I had was attached to the engine coolant lines at the thermostat. It was not an intercooler water temp gage as I though. I may consider getting an EGT gage or boost gage instead as I installed modifry's little device for the EMS to get my factory gage working again.

I forgot to mention. I've been looking for a copy of stock and boosted ignition maps for the S2K. I'm curious at what is considered the standard typical map.
