open= loud and makes a bit more power
recirc= as lound as your exhaust and some power loss compared to open
IMO if its a street car recirc FTW

whats more important to you, performance or your car being loud while boosting past the W/G spring

Why recirc it, when I go WOT I want the car to scream, and if I dont want to hear the dump, just dont boost past the W/G spring

I've run both and currently run a recirc'd dump.

Open wastegate is more efficient and is the best method to hold boost at a consistent level. The trade off there is, its loud. Think of it as a huge exhaust leak when you're in boost.

A Recirc'd dump fuctions the same way as an open gate, but instead places the exhaust gasses in the downpipe. This dramatically reduces the amount of noise the car creates in boost, but the tradeoff is the wastegate gasses have to fight with the escaping gasses passing through at the entry point. This promotes boost creep which limits how well you may be able to control boost on the top end.

What is 'better' depends on what is more important to you - consistent boost control or a quieter car? Keep in mind that a recirc'd gate that is designed properly will still function about as well as an open gate so the tradeoff may not be as apparent depending on the application.

Hope that helps.

i wanted to put a small muffler at the end of the dump but there is a lack of space under the car. the dump tube on a tial 44mm 1.75" or you can use 2" tube. i think like a corolla muffler uses somewhere in that neighborhood of exhaust tube size so you could use that

controlling boost with a recirc dump is not a problem. ideally you want the recirc into the downpipe somewhere around 12-18" from the turbo if I remember correctly.

Open dump can be pretty loud, thats for sure. You can actually make your own "muffler" for it.

A basic setup would be drilling holes in the dump tube, welding a larger stainless tube around it and filling the space between the two with stainless packing material. If you look around online you can find a simple design for a muffler, and you would just scale it down a bit.

Thanks for the input guys. i think i'm just going to leave it open since the s2000 is my weekend fun car. Since i don't daily drive it, i don't mind the extra noise.
