Default Relocating IAT

Has anyone with a S/C 2000-2005 S2K relocated their stock IAT sensor from the intake to the intercooler pipe before the throttle-body? If so, what are the benefits and disadvantages?

Mine has been relocated to the IC piping just before the TB for years and from my understanding, it is a much truer representation to the air temps as opposed to the intake manifold, that can introduce some heat soak.

I have relocated it and it reduces the amount of ignition timing the OEM ECU pulls when stationary or in a stop and go traffic. With boost that AIT heat soak is even worse and ECU pulls timing, again, thus resulting in a lethargic feeling car.

Although relocation helps to limit AIT sensor heat-soak and a more true representation of the AITs at higher TP% and velocity, say 3000rpm+... it might not be as accurate at representing the true, low velocity AIT temps, as air is indeed absorbing heat of the manifold and is very possibly hotter than your now relocated AIT sensor is reading.

I would still do it, especially with the OEM ECU or a Hondata. With a standalone this isn’t as much of an issue as you can control AIT compensation tables and ask it not to pull timing at low-loads yet still pull timing in med-high loads.

Did the relocation of the stock IAT on my 2004 S2K from the intake manifold to the intercooler pipe going to TB and the temperature readings dropped 20-23c. Car works great with existing tune and my AFR readings are now stable.
