Default RIP second gear

Well I knew the day would come that I went through my first stock tranny. I had noticed lately that my tranny was making a bit more noise with the clutch out and figured it was the throwout bearing. I was driving in town and shifted to second ar around 4000rpm and boom second gear gone. I knew right away and had heard others stories about what happens so I proceded to drive home without even stopping skipping second gear. At first it sounded like a cement mixer as the pieces of the gear flew around the tranny then it settled down a bit as the pieces settled.

Anyway, I have a spare AP1 tranny but am trying to decide what to do from this point. I just had to vent although I expected this to eventually happen lol.

Nice!
How much TQ were you putting down again?

I'd just continue to replace them with stock transmissions unless your doing some serious strip action and have loads of cash to wipe your a$$ with lying around.

I'm afraid these posts will become more frequent as the trannies get some age on them w/the power we are making.

I'm going to have to keep my eye out for a spare transmission locally.
I already have a spare diff and built motor waiting for my car in the event something goes awry.

Funny, just today after I beat up on a Shelby GT500 I notice the tranny sounded "different", and of course the whine of the DIFF

wait, so your 2nd just broke while driving around town slowly?, that is disappointing , I figured it would at least be under load

Yeah I am thinking that I had damaged the transmission earlier, possibly when I was drag racing it and it was on borrowed time. I was on 610hp and 420 ft lbs when racing. I am on my pump gas tune (91 octane) of 440 hp I think it was around 320 ft lbs. I was in first and shifted into second landing me around 4000 rpm and I mildly dropped the clutch and a heard a big bang, I knew right away.

Yep thats right, I can just skip second and it drives fine. I drove it to the university before I came home lol. Sometimes it picks up a piece of the gear and makes some noise, otherwise its completely normal.
