Default S2000 AP1 Vs Supra V160 Gear Ratios

UPDATE: I just read that the Supra's rear differential gear ratio for the Twin Turbo vehicles are 3.133 for USDM. This all makes a lot more sense now since that longer ratio will even out the short transmission gears, as opposed to our 4.10 stock diff...

I guess I answered my own question lol.

Hey guys, have a quick question for all you FI dudes. I know that the V160 stock Supra transmission is damn near bulletproof, especially in comparison to our S2000 transmissions, which makes the V160/V161 transmission upgrade useful just for durability sake. The V160/V161 gear ratios however are SIGNIFICANTLY shorter than our AP1/AP2 gear ratios (or other B-series transmission ratios as well). I've heard that generally speaking, shorter gear ratios are more useful on all-motor builds as power builds linearly with the RPM band and you don't have to worry about spooling or staying in the turbo-powerband.

That said though, there's obviously a TON of Supras running around turbo'd making 800+WHP and running ridiculously fast times. What does S2KI think about the V160 transmission gear RATIOS versus the AP (taking durability out of the equation)? Which would be better for building power quick in the RPM band and making the quickest acceleration? Does anyone happen to know approximately what MPH can be reached at redline in an S2000 in each V160 gear?

Gear Ratios for V160:

First gear: 3.827:1
Second gear: 2.360:1
Third gear: 1.685:1
Fourth gear: 1.312:1
Fifth gear: 1:1
Sixth gear: 0.793:1

Gear Ratios for AP1:

6-speed, close-ratio
Primary Gear Reduction - 1.160
1st gear - 3.133 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 45mph
2nd gear - 2.045 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 60mph
3rd gear - 1.481 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 90mph
4th gear - 1.161 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 115mph
5th gear - 0.970 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 135mph
6th gear - 0.810 --- Est speed @ 9000rpm ~ 160mph
Reverse - 2.800
Final Drive - 4.10 with Torque-Sensing Limited-Slip

Interesting information. I already feel my gears are slightly to short and that's with 3.93 on ap2 Trans.

Makes me reconsider not getting the v160

I haven't explored too many other options as far as reenforcing the stock AP transmissions, so I can't really give you an alternative idea. If possible though, that's what I would try to do.

If you have time in the next couple of days and feel like hot rodding your car a bit, see what MPH it tops out at in 1st and 2nd gear and let us know what it is!

Hit up real street or they have a lot of calculators online you can calculate the gear with speed
