S2000 basic Turbo information
I have been reading the early horror stories listed in the stickies. I assume these have been avoided with the new and improved information and turbo kits being produced. With that said I have owned 2 S2000's and am ready to purchase my third turbo it. My goal was to get one cheap under $10,000 and go from there to save money for future building. Anyway I have a list of questions that I am hoping to get some answers on so here we go:
1. Any model years handle boost better than others? Which ones?
2. Will a totally stock motor handle boost? what kind of numbers on a good mild street tune? (I'm hoping to safely do 300 to 350 BHP)
3. I have assumed potential weekpoints will be AP1 transmission, clutch, and rear diff. Any other weak points (headgaskets, rods, studs, etc)?
4. I have 1 good shop locally who specializes in turbo cars (namely dsms) and have been around for years. What kind of pain will it be for someone who has had little s2000 experience tune a mild turbo setup? This is a general question as I realize it depends on my setup.
As I said above my goal is to get a 00-02 S2000 around 100k. Do the research, get the prefered parts, install myself, and tow it to my local shop to do the tuning. Is this wishful thinking or are the complications far beyond what it may seem?

I have much the same goal, though I am a little torn about turbo in general. I'm tempted to just get a cold air intake and forgo the turbo. But I do like having the boost.
At any rate, I'd love to know the answers here, myself.

I don't think you searched hours on end to ask these questions that have been asked 20 million times. but I'll answer then for ya.
1. They all handle them the same. Just fine and dandy assuming the motor is healthy.
2. 300-350 will be super reliable on the street on a bone stock s2k.
3. You covered the weakpoints.
4. It'll be like working on any other car. Installing parts and then tuning. Should be simple. I'm not that great with wrenches but installed my turbo setup first time around a few years ago. Towed it to Full Blown Motorsports to tune for me.

^^^THIS. I will only add that early AP1's (00-01& early 02) need updated oil jet bolts for better oiling. Head gasket and rods etc are good on this motor. Just do a compression test and more importantly a cylinder leak down test.
