Default S2000 dog box

Hay guys, i started this thread last month to gauge interest in a replacement gear set our transmission. Thought it would be a great idea to get some input for you guys too. Pricing would hopefully be aroud $4000 for the shafts and straight cut dog gears.

i emailed them as well (m-factory) and they gave me a higher price on the straight cut gears vs helical.

I would be in for some better gears. Does M-Factory make helical gears that can withstand higher loads? Or are straight-cut gears the best choice? I will be seeing a lot of track days in the near future.

I have my stock AP1 tranny with 135K miles on it and I also purchased an AP2 tranny with 30K for my turbo build. I really don't have a specific power output that I am shooting for, but I have a GT35 Full-race kit that I am putting into my S and I would just rather plan ahead and spend the money now, instead of grenading my new(er) transmission....and then waste time looking for another one.

Thanks for trying to get this thing going, John. Keep us informed if anything new happens with this. Hopefully the price range is in the same area, because I've already spent most of my planned budget on this car, hehehe.

The only problem I see is $4000 is still a lot money. Even if someone can produce a 6 speed gear set for that cheap, how strong will it really be??

I mean, who wants to spend $4000 on something that still breaks??

Just saying.

If M-Factory is the company you are talking with, I can assure you that a 6 speed, straight cut dog box will be more than $4k, (the 4 speed version for the FWD guys is $4500) then you have to remember that the reduction gear in this trans is also a weak point?? Will they have a solution for this?

I think it's great that people are trying to find a cheaper solutions for the trans for the S2000, but I just don't think that the demand is high enough for any of these companies to go in full force. Especially in this economy.

Just my 2 cents.

The FWD stuff is expencive if you buy a complete trany with case. its a few thousand less if you just buy the shafts and gears. it will be able to with stand drag racing a 600+ hp S2000!!! Ive been using m-factory stuff on 700-800hp FWDs and i really like the stuff!!!

I know $4000-$5000 is a lot of money, but for those of you who need this kind of trans mission your other options are going to be twice the price. Trust me ive looked into it. .

Ive talked to m-factory and they are familiar with the s2000 trany. they need to have one to tare down and take measurements to give an accurate price. Im working on sourcing one to send to them. If anyone has one sitting around we could use let me know.

John

Is this going to be a synchromesh gear setup or dog gears?

more or less it would be all the shafts in the trany new along with straight cut dog gears. and probably an aftermarket final drive. That way everything is super strong and you can get all your fast shifting done.

heres a direct quote from my emailings with mfactory and they would be in production for 10 confirmed purchases. mfactory products are extremely durable, there are 950whp civics using their gearsets

"Hello Casey,

you would be looking at around $3k for the synchro gearset, and around
$4-5k for the dog gearset.

Thanks,

Stephen"

if you keep blowing up dog boxes i dont know where you can go next. thats pretty much the end of the road as far as technology in this time. Automatic is your best bet at this point.
