Default SC powerloss

I know a boost gauge would answer this question, but my car is across the country sitting in a garage and no amount of google searching has been able to answer this question.... gotta love the internet.

I have been feeling a good powerloss, so i pulled off the aftercooler (CTSC/AC setup) and noticed there was some oil film on the outlet port of the blower. Now if that IS a leaking oil seal, would that explain the powerloss?

Just kinda for an idea before I just buy a second paxton because I dont wanna wait for it to ship, get fixed and ship back.

Stock boost and no major mods. Was making 315 Rwhp when last dyno at Church Automotive.

have you checked the belt?? that small amount of oil shouldn't effect a noticable powerloss. Is it just a little on the blower??

Most likely the belt. I believe the breather hose is connected to the intake elbow on the Comptech (I know it is on the Vortech), so some oil may be getting through leaving a light film. Or you could have the problem I had, getting used to the supercharger and wanting more power. Time to go turbo or get a smaller pulley with supporting mods!

Haha ya defintitely want more power! I had todd over at 2NRWerks look at the belt and it seemed snug. Its just the oil film on the outlet that has me concerned.

And the oil isnt on it, its actually inside of it, like if you stick your finger inside where the air comes out, inside that hold is where i felt the oil.

^ If you still have the have the cam cover breather pipe attached, the blowby gasses will be sucked backed into your blower through the intake elbow, creating that film you're seeing.

The belt may feel tight, but it might not be. Mine was tight, but was so worn that it was slipping like crazy on the blower at high rpms.

Change it and see if it helps. It worked for me. Come we're talking $20 and 30 minutes of your time.

By the way, the oil film might be from your air filter. Comptech recomends keeping it as oiled as possible

I use a AFE Filter because my UOAs with the comptech filter were abit high in silicon content, but the new afe has brougt those levels back down.

Where I feel the oil is where the Compressor blows air into the aftercooler, that end of the compressor.

Sorted, I have crankvents on, but the idea might be what im thinking... but doesnt the breather elbow connect to the intake side of the SC? just tryin to get my ducks in a row... any other way to really see if the sc is leaking besides pulling it apart, dont wanan do that unless i have to.

and as for more power, getting a AEM F/IC, smaller pulley, and larger injectors and work will be done by 2NRWerks shortly ^^

Will do, but wont be until January as when I get back and when 2NRWerks can get it done, shouldnt take too long though cause seems the final bugs are worked out.

this is from my experiance w/ vortech: the oil is not a serious issue most likely. although it would be best if it weren't there, its not causing any real problem so long as its is a small amount or just a film like you said. The PCV valve on our N/A car was intended fo N/A use, and when you add boost, the PCV valve is overloaded by the increased pressure and doesnt work perfectly, but still does its job. Boost is pushing through the PCV valve which isnt strong enough to deal w/ it, and going into the case from manifold (the wrong way), and then coming out the breather, while it does this some oil is carried along with it. Another sign this is the cause is if your dipstick pops out of the valve cover to release pressure built up in the case. Solution: crank vents would be most practical i guess.

power loss issue, i recommend you get your hands on a cheap mechanical boost gauge with very clear number indication, and just see what psi the unit is making and if you can rule out slippage.
