Default Scored #1 Cyl

Finaly pulled my engine and when i got my head off... TA DA, #1 cyl lightly scored. How much honing is required and do you use regular sized pistons & rings when you go back in?

Here it is.

Close up.

All my exhaust valves are white except for the #1. Guess it was just blowing by. Anyone have ideas on that one?

Since you are not NO.4 and its no.1 and i am-was No.1 just wanted to say welcome to the club but i dont think that No.1 is a big one.
We decided that this happend on my car, that the engine Overheated some how and this happend.
I Drove the car hard, all day long,nothing.... and than one day i was Driving 100mph on the highway and when i got back home there was that tick-tick sound and woola-No1 failure...
I dont know why,
After that i got a AF dataloger, oil temp and pressure gauges...

also i dont know why honda sells .25 bigger pistons? Can they be used on a scored block?
Cheers/

That could be the case on mine also since, at the time, my radiator was busted. I drove it really hard one day and when i got back, just like yours, tick tick tick tick.

Seems to be some fun issues going on here. Number 1 failed for me as well. Pulling the head off tonight.
I am wondering if I did drop a sleeve.

The valves are not white like the other ones because of the scoring on the cylinder. The piston rings no longer seal properly causing excessive blow by also the cylinder may not be firing half or not even at all causing deposits to build on the exhaust valve.

Number 1 always runs rich. Its because of a very poorly designed intale manifold. The airflow to #1 has to make too sharp of a turn. Also why number 4 runs leen and is usually the the cylinder that fails.

What kind of intake manifold would you suggest using to counteract the sharp angle of airflow to the #1 cylinder? Or are there any?

I'm not sure anyone makes one yet except for custom built. With an AEM EMS you can individually tune the fuel to each cylinder and lean out number 1 and add fuel to number 4. Thats what I did on my last build. My current build (in progress) has a custom built intake manifold.
