Sequential Gearbox
anyone with F/I ever thought of going toward a sequential gearbox or has anyone on this site even done this before? i thought it might be a interesting idea since most sequential gearboxes shift faster than any human...
BMWs SMG is still not specifically a sequential box. A motorbike has a sequential box. You move the lever one way for up and the other for down. You still have a clutch.
The gearboxes you are refering to are computer controlled manual gearboxes and clutches. You can drive in a manual mode but all you're really doing is throwing a switch and asking the computer to change for you.
None of these gearboxes are perfected yet. They still interfere or feel clunky of whatever and they won't make the car any faster.
Personally what I would like (and have a plan to build when I can get my hands on a spare S2000 box) is paddle activation of the standard gearbox sliders. The only real difference is your hands won't have to come off the wheel to change gear. You'll still have a foot operated clutch.
But if you really want to remove the clutch have a look at 5Zigen's Twin Mode clutch system. It is a button operated clutch solenoid.
