after HARD runs, I'd expect maybe a teeny bit of smoke, but not like a full smoke bath.

I'm gonna say maybe your oil is heating up too much? I know your coolant is fine, but I'd throw on an oil temp gauge too, to be safe.

Or, just throw on an oil cooler. I ran an oil cooler on my turbo Z....made a big difference around here with all the heat/humidity we get.

does the thickness really change that much on 10w40??? I am going to try that next oil change. I am guessing it's my turbo at the moment since my engine Temp is near perfect.

I hope nobody runs 5w30 first off....

Next, I was curious of the brand as well.... is it mobil 1 etc.?

Amsoil is reported to burn very little in comparison to mobile 1 and perhaps would better suit your needs. Still I think all of this is a band-aid fix to some degree.

10-40 is a big difference when we're talking about the issue your having. I think all turbo cars should have an oil cooler hooked up. I really want to add one just for longevity's sake. We all know a hot engine = more wear.

+1 to oil cooler. And yes M1 has a history of really thinning out under heat.

I've always been a big fan of them but with my recent cylinder #3 failure and the fact that I have TCT issues on very hot days tells me this seems to be true, I believe oil pressure is dropping due to it thinning out and thus it is not able to drive the TCT well. 2ndly I think it may cause the cylinder failure I'm experiencing and I'm also wondering if it could thin out enough to not drive the Vtec function.

If I was the OP I would try swapping to AMSoil etc. and see if you see a change.

Yep Mobil 1 is sh*t!

I switched to Redline from Mobil 1 after replacing/modifying two tensioners and have had no problems.

i have had no issues with m1. Of course all of this is anecdotal. If your burning oil at idle, it could be worn piston rings, worn valve seals or a leaky turbo seal. Pull the oil cap off the valve cover and see if your getting a bunch of whitish smoke coming out of the hole. try changing your oil to something with a higher running viscosity. 5w and 10w only change the start up viscosity, not when hot.

i had this problem when i swapped turbos. make sure your oil drain line is in a perfect vertical position. any deviation from this causes the oil to back up in the turbo and causes it to spit it out everywhere and create tons of smoke. dont ask me how i know...

Yes, you definitely prime it the first time you fire it up. remove return (either at turbo or oilpan), and pull fuel pump fuse. then crank until you see oil dripping from return. Then hook everything back up.

I think is was a bad tune to begin with, it could've messed something up
