Default SOS 06+ IAT located

Where is the best place to install air temp sensor, between the aftercooler and throttle body or the intake silicone? I'm getting ready for the tune shop. Don't want heat soak while tunning.

Thank you

I wouldn't think the silicone would be the best place to mount it. Under boost i have had my aftercooler blow off the throttle body when the t-bolt clamps weren't secured tight enough, i can only imagine what boost would do to the sensor.

I had an IAT bung welded onto the top part of my aftercooler right next to the connection going to the throttle body. Works like a champ and reads post-cooled IAT values.

The bung was made by a online tuning shop but I forgot which one.

take your aftercooler off, and have a fabricator weld a ring around the inlet and outlet of the aftercooler so the hoses do not blow off.

Drill a hold in the outlet tube of the aftercooler, buy a grommet and stick it there.

Thank you for your input.Installing the sensor between the throttle and the aftercooler is better then intake tube? Less heat soak? Does make a different

I've had mine installed at the intake silicone for more than 3 years and 45k miles with no issues. This was per the instruction manual from SoS. I guess without improper installation anything can blow off from anywhere as it has for some people.

I'll be honest though....I've read on here people installing it on the after cooler properly and I've been curious if it makes a difference. Theoretically, after cooled temperatures should be more consistent than the intake area but I haven't seen anyone do any before and after comparisons or post any data. If you have a choice since you're installing new, I'd do it this way. If I ever upgrade to a smaller pulley I will probably go that route!

When I first installed my kit I put the IAT in the bottom of the aftercooler (where the previous owner had it, reading pre-cooled air) because the previous owner had a nice, custom welded intake arm made with no bung. When i was getting it tuned my tuner noticed it when my IATs were close to 180-190 degrees (pre-cooled) and it was retarding timing because of it to be safe.

The tuner mentioned I should relocate it, so i bought the bung and had them weld it on the top of the aftercooler (post-cooled) along with a bead roll around the exit of the aftercooler to the intake manifold to help secure the silicone (greatly helped with the silicone coupler blowing off under high boost). Anyway, after the IAT relocation the temperature was as much as 50F cooler than before and my ECU was no longer pulling timing due to the (vehicle perceived) high IAT values from reading pre-cooled air.

I would strongly recommend relocating it to a welded port on top of the aftercooler, that way your vehicles IAT values are reading the actual temperatures of the air going into the engine. Not only for timing purposes but also for accurate datalogging.

Thanks you for your input. I'm going to relocate the IAT to the AC output between the throttle body.

if its easier, you can use an IAT sensor from a v6 accord (1998-2002ish generation). It's a threaded sensor and can be wired up the same as the stock 06+. I'm turbocharged and welded a bung right before my intake manifold and i haven't had any issues yet.
