Thumbs down SOS Supercharer vs. Kraftwerks vs Vortech...

First let me say please no turbo recommendations as I firmly believe the s2000 is best setup with a supercharger. Turbos are great in some cars (Supra, EVO, Eclipse, etc) but not in an s2000 IMO.

I've been reading tons of info on the Kraftwerks from a local dealer who sells the Kraftwerks kit and everything I read seems to be good positive stuff. Low center of gravity and high HP output (around 370hp) is very good.

Then you have the SOS supercharger kit which seems to be a complete kit from a very reputable vendor. They have done some work on my NSX and they really know their engines when it comes to the s2000 and nsx.

In the recent magazine shootout, the SOS kit came out on top and their kit is one of the most comprehensive ones out there.

I'm debating on one of these kits for the better part of 6 months now....

Sitting in my garage I do also have a complete Vortech polished kit with Spearco front mount aftercooler. This kit is a proven kit and I only need to get new injectors and a Hondata ECU to get this installed into my 2009 GPW.

I loved my Comptech kit on my 05 Rio but that was only putting about 304 hp to the wheels. My goal this time around with the 09 GPW is to get at least 380-400+ horsepower.

Which kit or option would you guys do and why?

thanks
rick

I'm afraid I can't offer any first-hand experience, but from all the veterans of this forum I hear the same thing over and over: SoS Stg. 2 non-SL with upgraded heat exchanger.

That's exactly what I'm going to be getting hopefully sometime next year.

if you want that kind of power consistently, i would shy away from a KW kit since you will have to run more then 10psi of boost for it. some have hit near it, but i saw a buddies car def do it on 12psi i think. 10 its hard.

SOS kit 1200 blower FTW. everyone has had great success with there stuff. and one guy hit 500 on that blower with e85 and a shitton of boost.

good luck!

It all depends how much money u want to spend.. If money is not an option go for the SOS kit as it's been proven before by afew people here on these forums.. If u don't wanna go that extra mile slap the Vortech on since u already have it and call it a day!

Well you already have the vortech kit sitting on the floor so use it. The vortech kit is just as good as the SOS kit. If it is the self lube blower I would get them to upgrade it to an engine oil lube model which has a larger capacity like the novi 1200. There have been lots of issues with the self lube blower and eating bearings etc. If it was my dime I would also get them to do a t-trim on the vortech and you would be set. There will come a day, trust me, that you will want more hp and a t-trim is a great way to push that blower to the max.

Why not run ID1000, FlashPro, plus new pulley and upgrade your blower on the vortech kit?

If you decide to spend more money on buying a new kit.

SOS Stage 2 non-sl, 1200 blower, ID1000, Walboro 255 lph, FlashPro, 12lb pulley and call it a day.

I agree with s2000422. You have the vortech and people have shown it's easily capable of the numbers you're shooting for. Moreover, you have two blower upgrade options; vortech and 928 motorsports. Their bolt-on upgrade the 350z crowd has shown produces results. Same pulley, upgraded impeller and retune gave one guy +30 whp.

You and me both! I'm nearly decided on KW at this point, but as I'm not likely to actually have it put on for a least a couple months, nothing's set in stone.

Must be nice to live near actual vendors of this kind of stuff! One reason I haven't bought yet is that we just don't have a lot of tuners / installers around here.

I think the best part of this dilemma, though, is that you really can't lose either way

I've also been debating the same kits, except the Comptech in place of the Vortech.

I like the clean look install of the Comptech kit, but that's about it. To get it to the power levels of the other kits, you have to spend additional money for EMS, injectors, larger pulley... If they offered a bare kit with choice of pulley, I would definitely go with them. Otherwise, it gets too expensive for what it is.

Since I basically ruled out the CT kit, I now have to decide between the KW youtune and SOS stage 2. I like the power delivery and power/torque curves provided by the KW kit, and I think the blower itself is a trick little unit.

From what I can tell, the SOS kit looks like a much simpler setup compared to the KW, which I like (KISS principle - Keep It Simple, Stupid). Also, I think the value for the money, is way better with the SOS stage 2 kit. For $5,595, you get a Hondata Flashpro, ID1000 cc injectors, and the higher boost pulley. Even with the addition of the upgraded heat exchanger, you're still looking at less money than the KW youtune w/ like-for-like injectors and tuning solution. From what I've researched, the power levels will be pretty similar, plus the SOS offers more room for future upgrades.

But for whatever reason, I'm still being drawn towards the KW kit lol....

P.S. which kit offers the simplest install? All of the SC kit manufacturers claim that they all have the cleanest, least intrusive install... But which one lives up to their claim?
