Default SOS Turbo kit

Greetings all.

I've been poking around at what's been out these days on turbo kits. I've had my first S2000 turbo'd 3 times. I've stepped out of the S2000 world for awhile and seeing all of these new kits, it's pretty cool to see a lot of new options.

One kit that did stick out to me was the SOS turbo kit. I understand that they barely break 400whp with a gt35 turbo? I didn't see what dyno it was on.

However, I've noticed there were just a couple of dead threads on the kit and i'm curious as to what peoples thoughts are on the kit. I've called them to talk to them and they couldn't really point me to a forum or even thread with a good amount of information on the kit, but they claim to have sold a lot of them.

I'm just looking at peoples inputs on this kit. Seems like a great bolt on kit making 400whp, but if memory serves me, a gt35 barely making 400whp seems kind of........odd.

This is by no means to disrespect the kit or people using it. I'm just trying to gather information on which kit, other than this *and my fav, ptuning* is the most bolt on kit that doesn't require relocating a lot of components.

Go!

I believe the issue is the manifold. Check out the build threads on the forced induction stickies. A couple people have the kit. Some happy, some not. Seems the kit dies off at redline which sucks. But if you ok with oem fitment n great drivability at the expense of top end power, the kit is great from what I read. I really wanted the kit as well. But with the Kraftwerks sc kit easily putting down 400+ out the box, it's hard to not Consider it. Especially at the price difference.

But like you, I'd love some more info about SOS turbo kit as well as street driving impressions or videos.

Hey Allan. The issue is the manifold; it's restrictive compared to the tubular manifolds currently on the market. If you're not shooting for high whp numbers, this is an otherwise awesome kit! What are your goals?

Right on. I've driven a couple of supercharged S2000's and to me personally, I didn't quite "feel" the speed. I knew we were going faster for sure. But it was on an old comptech supercharger kit. I have no clue how these new ones are doing. Like the SOS or Kraftwerks. Could you elaborate a little bit on that?

Wholly chit. Blast from the past! What's good man!!!

Man you know i'm spoiled with the old Ptuning kit and it's power lol. I thought that maybe...JUUUUST maybe, if i could break the 400whp, I may be happy...but you know how that goes with boost

Still driving the lotus ?!

I haven't been in an S2000 with the NEW KW kit...hopefully soon. but everyone loves the linear power and claims it feels like a SUPER VTEC. Also, no headaches of heat issues from the Turbo set up. If done correctly im sure Turbo could be just as reliable as the SC, but you gotta pay to play. Read some of the builds from the KW kit and see how the people love em. Ive seen 400 whp to 462whp depending on mods and if running higher octane with the -81 blower. there was a group buy and at the price it was almost a no brainer, and of course I missed out on it. Hopefully they do another one since it sold so well. As far as the SOS turbo kit, im sure if I drove in one id be on the fence of which way to go. Just something about the spool up of a turbo that's so intoxicating. And with the Turbo kit, the room for to go higher and higher with numbers is much better and easier than the SC kit. But this is just my thoughts... I wish SOS would run a group buy on their kit. That would be awesome!

The problem with the SOS turbo kit is the fact that they designed the turbo kit with a evo8/9 style flanged twin scroll manifold. Mated with a garret turbo but with a evo 8/9 style turbine housing. This is great for super fast spool but since the s2000 is a high reving motor with a very efficient cylinder head this type of turbo hot side design comes at the huge cost of sacrificeing top end power. Most people are not willing to trade 300-400 rpm of spool for 50whp of top end power on straight pump gas. On race gas/e85 the results are even more exacerbated. That's the down fall of the SOS turbo kit.

a proper turbo kit for the s2000 that does not kill the top end power must be flanged with a t3 or t4 flange or vband flange and the manifold must have a 4 into 1 merge collector. Must not be a log manifold.

No turbo kit is perfect. First of all the ptuning kit is not in production any more. They have moved on to other cars and stopped making the s2000 kit.

Even the ptuning kit is great the worst thing about that kit in my opinion is their motor mount design. The lost in drivability due to the loud cabin and vibration because of the motor mount sucks.

I agree with this guy. At the end of my research the SoS and the PTUNING kit came to the top. I selected the better manifold and exhaust housing of the PTUNING kit in the end.

I just bought my PTUNING kit last month, and I got it last week. The kit is definitely still in production, but there won't be another run of parts for the kit made till June at the earliest.

They offer 4 different durometer motor mount inserts for the kit now and are recommending the softest which is what I got even though my car is a street/time attack car. I will definitely post my opinions of the vibration and increase in NVH once the kit is installed.
