Default Spun bearing

Well my motor went a little to early spun a bearing was in 4th gear racing a gto when I felt the motor slow down looked down oil light was on let off the gas oil light went away my guess is all my oil was at the top but I'm no pro pulling the motor out tomorrow and replacing the bearings with oem instead of the acl if everything still ok hope to be back on the road by next Sunday any ideas why I lost oil pressure at high rpm? My fault for not having a oil pressure gauge =\ will get one asap... But anyways if anyone can help me prevent this that would be awesome feel free to let me have it =>

if you add clearance to the bearings then there's nothing to hold the pressure... if you can just replace the bearings and everything is good, it kind of means you haven't made any metal or you haven't welded the bearing to the crank...

if it was like you said, "all my oil was at the top", that means there's no oil at the pickup which will lead to no oil for the pump to pump... which means no oil pressure...

you're so right about the gauge... it's like, if you can only have 1 gauge, that's the one you should have...

If all of your oil was at the top of the motor, then I am guessing that you didn't have enough in there to start with. As far as the symptoms now, it seems like bearings, but with the metal shavings, and oil starve, I think that you may run into bigger issues than bearings down the line.

I would suggest giving the motor a very good looking at while you have it out and see if the cylinders are scratched, or if there is any further damage that would make further problems down the road. If the oil shortage was bad enough to fry a rod bearing, then I would guess that there is other damage too.

Good luck

Check the oil pump, very common that people forget this and destroy the engine later.

If you do have rod play, your crank may be toasted. At bare minimum, you will need to have a machine shop grind it and run over size bearings. Your rods will also need to be honed on the big end. Also the little tiny copper flakes of your bearings were most likely picked up by your oil pump and pumped into the oil filter. Depending on the type of oil filter you are running they may have bypassed the filter. If you are running a fram oil filter you will find little metal flakes in every oil passage, including your head. Pull your vtec solenoid and check the little screen for copper pieces. If there are pieces, you will need to pull the block take it to a car wash and clean all of the passages out. Also you will need to thoroughly clean the oil pump out. if the star gear is too damaged, you will need a new oil pump.

I went through he same thing a couple of years ago, not fun. I ended up cleaning the block, grinding my crank and rods and reinstalling everything. Cost me about $1000, or if you want you could get a used motor.

I would not recommend reusing the crank if there is any damage at all. a different brand of bearing wont help you, you had an oil starvation issue, any bearing would fail in that case.

The bearing spun before the oil light came on, the oil light came on b/c the bearing spun. When the bearing goes there is nothing left there to create oil pressure.

I'd look for signs of detonation not an oil issue. How many miles are on the motor?
