Default Stock hub strength

Wondering if any of you have had issues with the stock rear hubs, whether it be in the splines or elsewhere.

I'm wondering if it is worth the money to just replace them with a set of axles. I've got a 8.8 rear end I'm going to install one day...and I don't imagine I would have much more than 550whp (I know....I say that now).

I know both the r200 and 8.8 kits include new hubs, I just never heard of the stock ones having issues yet. Maybe they use a larger axle into the new hubs though....I don't know.

Thanks in advance.

The new hubs are requisite to accommodate the larger axle/spline diameter of the 3.9/5.9 kits. I wonder if DSS would make an axle that fits the 8.8 (inner) and stock S2000 hub/spline? I know there are a few guys who have broken axles; I wonder if any of them have sheared the axle at the hub/axle nut?

Browsing DSS's website, the 2.9(500hp) axles use the factory hubs (28spline), while their 5.9(1000hp) axles use a new hub (33 spline). Probably mostly for making the outer ends bigger/stronger.

I've sheared an integra axle before, and it separated on the outer hub just after the splines. Seems I will keep this in mind then if it doesn't drive the cost up too much.

I found a thread by wadzii, which pretty much answered my questions (should have searched more before).

I believe dss was able to make him a set with ford inners and s2000 outers. Weak link now being the 28 spline outers.

Personally I made over 500 whp on completely stock rear end, axles, hubs, and never had any issues with anything other than my clutch.

Nice find! That's probably your best bet for a more budget friendly setup

First I burned up a comp stage 5 first launch in the car at the track, then I went to an act hdg6 kit and burned up the disc in a matter of about 100 miles, now in the car is a act with a street disc but I just bought a built th350 and ordered a Hughes converter and trans brake for it as well. I'm kinda over the whole standard and clutch issues and the th350 is much much much lighter rotating weight than a th400 and still 3 speed. I thought about going with a glide but I wanted a 3 speed
